Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a growing independent planning consultancy in their search for a Planner to join their Birmingham office. This is an excellent opportunity for a Planner to join a respected consultancy working across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed‑use, and strategic land developments. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide range of planning projects while working within a supportive and collaborative team environment.

THE ROLE

As a Planner, you will be involved in delivering planning projects from initial site appraisal through to planning application, appeal, and determination. You will manage your own projects while supporting senior colleagues on larger and more complex schemes, developing your expertise across a variety of planning disciplines and sectors. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career progression within a consultancy that values professional development and high‑quality client service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing planning applications and appeals across a range of development sectors
  • Preparing planning statements, appraisal reports, and supporting documentation
  • Undertaking site assessments and development feasibility studies
  • Conducting planning policy research and analysis
  • Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, consultees, and stakeholders
  • Attending client meetings, site visits, and public consultations
  • Supporting project delivery across residential, commercial, and mixed‑use developments
  • Assisting with business development and client relationship management

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
  • Previous experience within a planning consultancy or local authority environment
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem‑solving
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
