Senior Drainage Engineer
Guildford | Hybrid | £45,000-£60,000 + benefits
Are you looking to work with an established, independent consultancy in Guildford that works across transport, infrastructure, drainage and development projects throughout the UK. We are looking for a Senior Drainage Engineer to join their growing infrastructure team and take a leading role in delivering practical drainage solutions for a wide range of developments.
This isn't a role where you'll be stuck doing the same calculations and reports on repeat. You'll be involved from the early stages of a project, working with developers, planners and wider design teams to come up with drainage strategies that actually work.
What will you be doing?
- Leading the design and delivery of drainage strategies for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments
- Designing SuDS, surface water and foul drainage systems
- Producing drainage layouts, calculations and technical reports
- Undertaking hydraulic modelling and drainage assessments
- Supporting Flood Risk Assessments and wider infrastructure strategies
- Working closely with planners, architects, highways engineers and other consultants
- Liaising with clients, local authorities and statutory bodies
- Reviewing technical work and providing guidance to more junior engineers
- Getting involved in project management, fee proposals and client relationships
- Helping develop practical, commercially viable solutions rather than designing something that looks good on paper but doesn't work in reality
What are they looking for?
We're looking for someone who already has solid experience in drainage design and is ready to take ownership of projects and play a bigger role within a consultancy environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Several years' experience in drainage/civil engineering consultancy
- Strong knowledge of SuDS, drainage design and flood risk
- Experience working on development schemes
- Experience with relevant drainage design/modelling software such as MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, Civil 3D or similar
- Good understanding of UK drainage standards and planning requirements
- The ability to confidently communicate with clients and other project stakeholders
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject
- Ideally, Chartered or working towards CEng/ICE status
