Penguin Random House US is seeking a UK based Sales Manager to represent the Penguin Random House US lists to UK accounts and distributors. Reporting to the Associate Sales Director, UK & the Commonwealth, this position will be responsible for developing and implementing sales strategies and setting sales priorities. This person will manage our business relationships with key UK distributors and retailers, working closely with our New York office and UK-based Associate Sales Director and Marketing Manager to provide relevant sales and market information. This position will be based in a UK home office with occasional travel in London and the South East, and will also travel annually to New York City.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Sales Associate in maintaining a timely flow of title information to our UK distributors, including local on sale dates, retail prices, and formats.
  • Presenting new titles to our distributors’ sales teams on a regular basis via MS Teams and in person.
  • Collaborating with Penguin Random House (Client) Publisher Services and a range of client publishers including DC Comics, Disney, Marvel, MIT Press and Seven Seas, to maximize title performance in the UK trade.
  • Working with our distributors to secure retail promotions.
  • Liaising with Penguin Random House US Sub-rights Managers on UK title rights.
  • Seeking out and initiating plans to secure new sales opportunities.
  • Working with the UK based Marketing and Publicity Manager to ensure books are available to support publicity and marketing outreach as well as author events.
  • Maintaining a regular schedule of contact with key business partners including meetings in and around London.
  • Reporting weekly to the Associate Sales Director on sales performance and goals.
  • Attending conferences, book fairs, book launches, and other events as necessary.

  • Minimum of 3 years of book publishing sales experience required.
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK book trade.
  • Knowledge of non-trade/special markets, evolving trends, and retail merchandising are preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Collaborative attitude and an ability to work on complex problems as part of a team.
  • Highly organized with the ability to self-start and prioritize a heavy workload.
  • Ability to travel on average 2-3 days per month to the London area by train and to travel via plane once per year to New York City.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

The salary range for this position is £40,000- £45,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
