We are looking for a creative and entrepreneurial marketer with experience working in a fast-paced marketing team. This role will work across the list with a particular focus on perennial catalogue titles (particularly our non-fiction publishing and Cornerstone Press) and sustaining the success of our titles over the long term.
About Cornerstone
Cornerstone is a division within the iconic publisher Penguin Random House, our home. In turn, Cornerstone is home to seven imprints: Century, Del Rey, Inklore, Evermore, Hutchinson Heinemann, #Merky Books, and Cornerstone Press, each with its own specific focus and remit. Every Cornerstone book also goes on to become a Penguin paperback.
Within publishing, Cornerstone has an enviable track record of bestsellers, prize winners and culture-shaping books, working with many of the world’s most interesting voices, often throughout their entire career. Our books span genres, categories and marketplaces globally.
The role
We are excited to announce a new role in our department, initially offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract. This position has the potential to become permanent after the initial period, providing an excellent opportunity for growth and long-term career development.
We are looking for a creative and proactive Marketing Executive/Senior Marketing Executive to join our team. Combining your creativity with strategic thinking and commercial awareness, you’ll manage campaigns across a range of media; planning, briefing, and delivering content as well as reacting to new opportunities and shifts in the market. This role will create awareness of and engagement with Cornerstone books and authors in order to drive sales and build profiles of both catalogue and in market titles.
The candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues in the marketing team and other departments and display excellent communication skills. You’ll react to sales data and opportunities in the market, communicate campaign performance whilst honing and adapting live campaigns to maximise and sustain sales. You’ll be highly organised, simultaneously working across multiple campaigns and delivering them on time and to budget.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting the creation of successful marketing strategies, including identifying the audience, creative consumer message, planning media space, partnerships and campaign analysis
- Developing, implementing and reviewing strategy for specific marketing channels – across a combination of owned and paid for channels.
- Be the go-to person for translating data (in partnership with our marketing analyst) into actionable strategy and identifying opportunities to reach new readers and to grow sales.
- Conduct market research to identify opportunities to reach new readers and to help grow sales.
- Work closely with our media agency partners and freelancers to build well-targeted campaigns. You will use your awareness of digital advertising platforms and campaign analysis to optimise performance.
- Focus on Cornerstone perennial titles – identifying and leveraging renewed opportunities to sustain success and increase visibility both domestically and internationally.
- Act as the key contact between international sales (Australia, India and Europe), audio marketing, and backlist editorial leads across the division.
- Build and manage seasonal marketing campaigns for the backlist, including New Year, Summer Reading, Back to School, and gifting.
- Monitor campaign performance, analyse results, and benchmark against set goals and targets, establishing a framework for continuous improvement – particularly for D2C international advertising.
- Produce best-in-class, attention-grabbing campaign creative and consumer messaging across all your assets and marketing material and develop fresh positioning for consumer facing and internal marketing materials.
What you’ll bring:
- Demonstrable experience producing marketing campaigns ideally within the publishing industry or an experienced marketing team assistant now looking for more campaign responsibility
- An ability to leverage audience insights and data for marketing strategies.
- Highly organised with an ability to handle conflicting priorities/projects
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and liaise with various teams
- Creative thinker with a knack for developing fresh ideas
- Experience in working with external agencies and managing media planning and activity
