Our marketing and PR teams are organised into three audience‑focussed hubs (across Pre‑School, Primary and YA), publishing everything from picture books to young fiction and graphic novels, non‑fiction and books for young adults. We are looking for a new Publicity Manager to largely work across our Preschool and Primary Hubs, reporting into the Head of PR.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • The Publicity Manager will manage publicity campaigns, working across debut authors, recognised brands and high‑profile talent.
  • You will be able to plan and implement your own innovative and targeted publicity campaigns, which get into the hearts and minds of the consumers of our titles and the Ladybird and Puffin brands, through multiple platforms.
  • Plan, manage and evaluate consumer facing publicity book campaigns within budget to reach targeted audiences and connect with consumers.
  • Promote books and authors through print, radio, TV, social media and digital channels to ensure coverage and generate sales.
  • Manage all aspects of author publicity events and tours including event creation and schedule management e.g. book festivals, schools events, signing events, stock signings, appearances, dinners and media showcases.
  • Establish and maintain strong external relationships, with consumer media, trade media, key influencers and networks within the industry.
  • Communicate publicity campaigns and activity effectively internally to all departments across the division, especially marketing, sales, rights and editorial, as well as externally to authors and agents.
  • Create and write a variety of print and digital promotional materials for trade press, consumer press and end consumers.
  • Coordinate international press requests for group companies, where appropriate.
  • Supervise more junior members of staff, where appropriate.
  • Support the Head of PR across campaigns and acquisition conversations, where appropriate.

What you’ll bring

  • You don’t need to have worked in publishing before to be considered for this role, but a passion to work with children’s brands is essential.
  • Perhaps you’ve worked in entertainment or media PR previously, or in a PR agency – whatever your PR background, we’d like to hear from you if you:
  • Have a keen interest in the UK children’s book market.
  • Are a creative individual who isn’t afraid to think outside of the box.
  • Are a proven project manager who has strong organisation and time management skills.
  • Have excellent communication skills and are confident with pitching and presenting.
  • Are able to generate multi‑channel campaigns, on and offline, with innovative, digital content at their heart.
  • Are a team player but can work autonomously using initiative.

Circa £42,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role.
