Temporary for 12 months – extension subject to funding. We are seeking to appoint an individual that wishes to make a difference to the local environment within Nelson. As an Environmental Warden, you will work to promote behaviour change by raising awareness of environmental issues through educational projects and involvement in community events linking to anti‑littering or waste prevention.

As post holder you will be required to work closely with elected members and other agencies to deliver improvements in the area. You will be required to attend occasional evening or weekend events such as Town Council meetings and co‑ordinate clean‑ups in areas which suffer from deprivation or misuse. If required you will assist colleagues to enforce the relevant legislation relating to reports of fly‑tipping; littering; abandoned vehicles; incorrect separation, presentation and removal of waste and waste containers, clearance of waste from private land and breaches of our current Public Space Protection Orders.

You must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people in writing, and face‑to‑face, sometimes in difficult situations. You should have good organisational skills and be able to work on your own initiative managing your workload in order to meet given deadlines. You should also be computer literate, and have good numeracy skills, along with the ability to write clear and concise reports. As you will be required to travel around Nelson, a current, full driving licence is essential for this position. Some early morning, late evening, bank holiday and weekend working may be required on occasions.

Pendle is in Lancashire’s scenic Pennines, close to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Manchester.
