Monday to Friday. Working pattern between 08:00 and 18:30. Salary negotiable depending on experience. Soho Square General Practice are looking for a Receptionist to join our team. We are located in Frith Street, Soho. We provide the NHS Pension and 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

Main duties of the job:

  • Our receptionist is the first point of contact for patients, playing a key role in the day‑to‑day running of our GP surgery.
  • Duties include answering telephone calls, booking and managing appointments, greeting and checking in patients, and contacting patients who are due to be seen.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with excellent written and spoken English, a confident and friendly manner, and a good level of IT literacy. The ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment is essential. Previous experience in either a GP Practice or customer service role is required.

Job responsibilities:

  • Answering telephone calls and dealing with face‑to‑face enquiries.
  • Receiving and directing patients and visitors to the Practice.
  • Keeping accurate records of patients attending and those requiring visits.
  • Receiving and recording requests for home visits.
  • Making new and follow‑up appointments.
  • Pulling/filing notes and extracting/making ready patients notes for surgeries if required.
  • Liaising between reception and the Clinicians during surgeries as appropriate.
  • Act as a Patient Chaperone as and when required.
  • Receiving and recording messages for Clinicians and other members of Internal Staff as required.

  • Be committed to own personal development by maintaining an up to date training record and contributing to the annual review process.
  • Effectively manage own time and workload.
  • Support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Understand and respect the confidentiality and sensitivity of issues to do with patients, their care and treatment.
  • Be flexible within reason, to help cover shifts in the event of holiday and sickness.
  • Inform and consult with Manager regularly throughout the day to enable the efficient operation of Reception and Administrative functions.
  • You will be required to undertake all other duties that may be reasonably asked of you including supporting the work of the Administration team when required.

Person Specification:

  • Good oral and written English communication skills.
  • Good level of IT literacy.
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent to include Maths and English.
  • Experience working in a customer/patient facing environment or previous experience in a GP Practice.
