The Infrastructure Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting the organisation’s core IT infrastructure across multiple sites. This includes network equipment, cloud services, Intune‑managed devices, CCTV, and structured cabling. The role focuses on infrastructure operations, not basic user support, and requires regular travel between sites to support installations, audits, and improvements. The technician works closely with the Infrastructure & Cloud Team to ensure all systems remain secure, reliable, and compliant with organisational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Network & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Monitor and maintain network switches, Wi‑Fi access points, routers, firewalls, and patch cabinets.
- Perform routine checks on network performance, uptime, and cabling standards.
- Diagnose and resolve LAN/WAN issues, VLAN configurations, and fibre connectivity faults.
- Maintain accurate documentation and asset inventory for all network and infrastructure equipment.
- Intune, Cloud Administration
- Support Microsoft Intune deployments, enrolments, compliance policies, and device configuration profiles.
- Assist with Azure AD identity‑related tasks.
- Perform basic checks, patching schedules, and system health monitoring.
- Hardware Deployment & Lifecycle Management
- Deploy and maintain laptops, desktops, printers, VoIP phones, and classroom AV equipment.
- Manage hardware lifecycle: imaging, upgrades, replacements, and secure disposal.
- Maintain stock and ensure available inventories for all sites rollouts.
- Security & Compliance
- Enforce IT security standards across all sites.
- Manage endpoint security tools including antivirus, MFA.
- Conduct regular compliance checks for GDPR, safeguarding, and internal security policies.
- Infrastructure & Expansion Projects
- Participate in infrastructure projects: classroom builds, CCTV installations, cabling, network upgrades, and server room improvements.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and facilities teams to ensure standards are met.
- Provide documentation and technical input for future sites expansions.
- Technical Documentation
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation including network diagrams, cabinet layouts, IP allocations, VLAN configurations, and installation standards.
- Create internal IT guides for use by the Infrastructure & Support teams.
- Multi‑Sites Support
- Travel frequently between sites (across UK) for installations, audits, repairs, and compliance tasks.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals: VLANs, switching, Wi‑Fi, routing, structured cabling.
- Experience with enterprise tools: Intune, Azure AD/Entra ID, M365 admin.
- Knowledge of Windows environments, device provisioning, imaging.
- Practical experience with CCTV, access points, and network cabinets.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- IT related degree.
- Networking certifications (CompTIA Network+, or equivalent).
- Experience with Unifi.
- Exposure to cloud environments (Azure AD).
