Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, the Deputy Chief Privacy Officer will help deliver and evolve the firm’s global data privacy and governance strategy, ensuring compliance with international data protection laws while supporting innovation in legal technology and AI. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership in managing incidents, advising on data risks, and embedding a culture of accountability, trust, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and act as deputy to the Chief Privacy Officer in delivering the global data privacy and governance framework.
- Lead global data incident response, ensuring compliance with reporting obligations and effective remediation.
- Partner with the Chief Information Security Officer on cybersecurity and data resilience strategies.
- Provide expert legal and regulatory advice on privacy, data governance, and cross-border data transfers.
- Oversee global privacy reporting, record-keeping, and engagement with regulators and clients.
- Drive strategic data governance projects and privacy awareness initiatives across the firm.
- Collaborate with risk, technology, and compliance teams to align privacy objectives with business strategy.
- Manage and mentor privacy professionals, fostering growth and excellence within the team.
This position would suit a qualified lawyer with at least eight years’ PQE, gained in a leading law firm, corporate, or professional services environment. You’ll have recognised expertise in global privacy laws and regulations, proven experience managing complex data incidents, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Experience leading or managing a team is essential, as is a proactive, collaborative, and solutions-focused approach. The firm will also consider highly experienced fee-earners with strong data privacy, governance, AI and cybersecurity experience who are looking to transition into an in-house leadership role.
