As the Data Privacy and Information Governance Officer, you will oversee compliance efforts with global data privacy regulations and lead the implementation of cutting-edge information governance programmes. Reporting to the Office of General Counsel and Chief Information Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to influence global processes and ensure the firm remains at the forefront of regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Data Privacy
- Advise on GDPR, UK GDPR, HIPAA, California Consumer Privacy Act, and other regulations.
- Oversee compliance with global data privacy laws and develop supporting processes and documentation.
- Conduct privacy and transfer impact assessments and manage data subject requests.
- Review and negotiate data processing agreements and standard contractual clauses.
- Deliver data privacy training and assist with incident response initiatives.
Information Governance
- Develop and implement an information governance programme addressing digital and physical data.
- Collaborate with IT and Records Services teams to establish protocols for SaaS and GenAI tools.
- Drive initiatives to promote electronic record keeping across practice groups and teams.
- Ensure compliance with document retention guidelines and oversee file transfers for lateral hires.
This role is ideal for a qualified legal professional with at least seven years of experience in data privacy and information governance. A law degree is essential. Previous experience in a law firm is a significant advantage, alongside:
- CIPP certification and strong knowledge of GDPR and other global regulations.
- Familiarity with Microsoft M365 and document management systems.
- Proven project management and change leadership experience within a global organisation.
- A proactive mindset, excellent judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
