Position: Environmental Health Graduate Trainee
We are delighted to advertise this training opportunity, which provides automatic progression to a full-time, permanent Environmental Health Practioner position within our Food Safety and Standards Team.
Automatic progression can be achieved for EH Graduates on successfully completing a programme of practical training, evidence portfolio and professional interview to register with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
Salary: Competitive salary, fair and transparent pay structure, and nationally agreed annual pay awards. Career growth pathways, starting on Grade 6 and progressing to grade 8 once fully qualified.
Environmental Health Graduate: Grade 6 – £28,142 – £31,022 (£14.59 per hour )
As an Environmental Health Graduate, you should be ready to commence a permanent placement with our Public Protection Service, gaining necessary experience across all areas of Environmental Health and kick-start your career in this field. This is an excellent opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained during your studies in a real-world setting. It will allow you to start building practical experience, which is invaluable for your professional development on your path to becoming a fully qualified Environmental Health Practitioner This hands-on experience will not only enhance your understanding of environmental health practices but also provide you with valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of the Service.
Career Progression: Upon completing a programme of training to achieve professional status as a Registered Environmental Health Practitioner, you will progress to the role of Environmental Health Practitioner within our Food Safety and Standards Team.

As an Environmental Health Graduate Trainee, you will embark on an exciting journey that combines hands-on experience with professional growth, covering all aspects of environmental health work. This will include food safety and standards; health and safety; communicable disease control; port health; domestic public health; pollution control; private sector housing and licensing); to gain the full breadth of experience necessary complete the EHP Portfolio while supporting the delivery of Council\’s Public Protection Service.
Working under the supervision of qualified Environmental Health professionals you will develop the necessary skills and competencies to enable progression towards managing your own caseload, while pursuing further professional training and development, to achieve full professional qualification and status.
