The Pembroke Medical Group is part of the Baywide PCN. We are looking for a salaried GP to join our welcoming, hardworking, and forward-thinking team.

Up to £12,400 per session: Portfolio Working: Blocked Admin Time: 6 weeks holiday: 1 week study leave: Indemnity (the extra costs on top of crown is fully paid by the practice). Flexibility - we have extra contracts to fit around childcare and can be flexible with the number of sessions worked.

Main duties of the job:

  • Operating from our main site in Paignton and our branch site in Torquay, we care for upwards of 26,000 patients in an organised and strong team environment.
  • Meeting for coffee every day, enjoying our practice funded socials and being supportive to new members of our team.
  • Our 22 GPs are currently supported by ANPs, Pharmacists, Paramedics and ARRS roles staff including Pharmacy Technicians, and Social Prescribers as well as large and experienced nursing, reception, and admin teams.
  • We work well within the local community giving lots of opportunities for portfolio working including taking part within the Integrated care team, and any new roles that may be on the horizon!
  • We have a good track record of welcoming trainees and newly qualified GPs into the practice.
  • We pride ourselves on being friendly and offering support especially in those first few months of transition.
  • We have a duty doctor on hand each day with no booked patients ready to help with any queries that may arise.
  • Using Emis Web we run a hybrid system involving an acute, on the day triage team and a planned pre-booked team every day.

Pembroke Medical Group is a large GP practice with over 26,000 patients based in Paignton and Torquay in South Devon. We have 2 sites, our main site is in Preston, Paignton and we have a smaller site near the harbourside in Torquay. We are a training practice for not only medical students and trainee GPs but also student nurses and newly qualified pharmacists. As a practice, we are always looking to improve our patients' experience and we are keen to embrace new digital solutions as part of this vision.

Job responsibilities:

  • The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Qualified GP MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training).
  • Experience: Experience of working in a primary care environment, experience of continued professional development, experience of QOF and clinical audit, minimum of two years as a salaried GP, general understanding of the GMS contract, experience of medicines management, experience of CCG initiatives, full GMC Registration, National Performers List registration, appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU), eligibility to practice in the UK independently.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills (written and oral), clear, polite telephone manner, competent in the use of Office and Outlook, effective time management (Planning & Organising), ability to work as a team member and autonomously, excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving & analytical skills, ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.
  • Personal Qualities: Polite and confident, flexible and cooperative, motivated, forward thinker, problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required, high levels of integrity and loyalty, sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations, ability to work under pressure / in stressful situations.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
