École Barrhead Elementary School (K-6 Dual Track), located in Barrhead, Alberta, is now accepting applications for a full-time Probationary Inclusive Education Lead Teacher (IELT) commencing August 27, 2026 and ending June 29, 2027. The IELT, with guidance from the Division specialist, will collaborate with school administrators to support classroom teachers with purposeful classroom instructional design for all learners. Their support to classroom teachers will focus on engaging all students in an inclusive learning environment. Instructional design will align to the principles of Universal Design for Learning and Concept Based Instruction.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's in Education
- Must hold a valid Alberta teaching certificate
- Advanced studies (Master’s Degree) in Inclusive Education, Psychology or Counseling is beneficial, but not required
Experience or training:
- Teaching experience
- Experience in Inclusive Education Services
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to design learning that purposefully engages all students
- Coordinate the plans, assessments, monitoring and supports for identified students
- Assist the School Principal with Program Assistant staffing
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

- Ability to provide Professional Development and training to staff
- Understanding of the principles of Universal Design for Learning
- Understanding of the principles of Concept Based Instruction
- Ability to develop relationships with teachers built on rapport and mutual respect
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students in an Inclusive setting
- Knowledge and understanding of Division policies and practices (especially AP 60-10 and AP 60-12)
- Word processing and spreadsheet skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to form trusting relationships with ease
- Demonstrated commitment to formative assessment practices through classroom implementation
- Understanding of the research process
- Experience in providing students with alternate means to demonstrate learning
- Knowledge and understanding of Division hiring policies and practices
- Knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Educational Assistants in Pembina Hills School Division
