We’re looking for candidates with strong technical backgrounds and working knowledge and experience applying land contamination risk management processes on a range of projects, and someone that is keen to grow and develop their technical capability and seek to continually improve and refine these skills. It’s essential that our work provides successful outcomes to our clients; candidates will need to apply their knowledge and skills to a broad range of projects and communicate the findings in a way that clearly explains the process undertaken, outcomes and consequences. Our projects are across the UK.
Our team is based across the UK with staff working out of Exeter, London, Manchester, Croydon and Nottingham offices. We hold regular team training/mentoring days, predominantly in Exeter. UK travel will be part of the role for project meetings, site visits and team training. Our project portfolio includes a diverse range of project types/sectors, sites and clients - so the ability to adapt and respond to client requirements and to collaborate on bespoke deliverables will be essential. The team is responsible for supporting the wider business and winning our own work. Experience in scoping, bidding and delivering diverse and bespoke offerings would be an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Undertaking technically accurate assessments and preparing clear and accurate technical reports.
- Supporting graduates and less experienced staff as the team grows.
- Liaison with internal and external clients including managing expectations.
- Maintaining and developing strong background knowledge.
- Ensuring deliverables meet the client’s needs and are provided on time/budget and to high standards.
- Project managing smaller projects and demonstrating good commercial/financial awareness.
- Contributing to bids and preparing simple bids.
- Assist with business development and the promotion of the capabilities of the company.
- Ensure compliance with internal management system procedures.
Land contamination risk management:
- Preliminary risk assessments (land contamination desk study, preparing preliminary conceptual site models, and outlining next steps).
- Site investigation scheme – designing investigations; contributing to/preparing specifications and tender evaluations, overseeing fieldwork and scheduling geochemical analysis.
- Quantitative risk assessments (Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments (GQRA) (human health experience essential, ground gas and controlled waters – beneficial).
- Detailed quantitative risk assessment (DQRA) (experience beneficial).
- Remediation options appraisal, Remediation strategy, Remediation verification and validation.
- Fieldwork for site investigation supervision and remediation verification.
Materials and waste:
- Waste classification assessments and waste acceptance assessments.
- Material management strategies and material management plans.
- Site won materials including Made Ground, natural soils and secondary aggregates from demolition.
Qualifications:
- A Degree in (typically) environmental earth science/geoenvironmental/geological science.
- Member of a relevant environmental professional body.
- Chartered member (or working towards chartership) of a relevant professional body.
Experience:
- Considerable years of experience working in a UK consultancy for private/public-sector developers and operators, on a range of development/infrastructure projects.
Skills:
- Strong background knowledge.
- Strong interest in geoenvironmental topics.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and organisational skills.
- Full familiarity with UK land contamination policy, practice and guidance documents.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- A collaborative nature, demonstrating strong relationships.
- Commercial understanding of environmental consultancy procurement.
- A full UK driving licence with own transport.
- Familiar with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and Holebase.
Business travel: for client/site meetings and team development meetings within the UK.
