Pell Frischmann is a specialist advisory and technical consultancy operating across the built and natural environment. We are looking for candidates with strong technical backgrounds in land contamination risk management to join our geoenvironmental team and work on UK projects. The main offices for this role are Exeter or Manchester, with hybrid working and UK travel required.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking technically accurate assessments and preparing clear and accurate technical reports.
- Support graduates and less experienced staff as the team grows.
- Collaborate with geoenvironmental team members across the company, both remotely and in person.
- Liaise with internal and external clients, managing expectations and delivering outcomes.
- Maintaining and developing strong background knowledge.
- Maintaining and developing technical knowledge and understanding, including with respect to the Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM) Framework.
- Deliver high quality work in accordance with practice standards, legislation, and health & safety.
- Communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
- Ensure deliverables meet client needs, on time and on budget.
- Plan tasks and workload to deliver projects on time and to high standards.
- Support geoenvironmental consultants and graduates as the team grows.
- Project manage smaller projects with commercial awareness.
- Contribute to bids and assist with business development.
- Ensure compliance with internal management system procedures.
Role and Activities
- Land contamination risk management activities include:
- Preliminary risk assessments (desk studies, conceptual site models, and next steps).
- Site investigation design, specifications, tender evaluations, overseeing fieldwork.
- Assess ground conditions and develop conceptual site models.
- Quantitative risk assessments (GQRA – human health experience essential; ground gas and groundwater knowledge beneficial).
- Detailed quantitative risk assessments (DQRA – experience beneficial).
- Remediation options appraisal, remediation strategy, and verification/validation.
- Site investigation supervision and remediation verification (senior level).
Materials and Waste
- Experience in the following is beneficial and may be covered by training:
- Waste classification and waste acceptance assessments.
- Material management strategies and plans.
- Site won materials, including Made Ground and natural soils.
Qualifications
- Degree in environmental earth science/geoenvironmental/geological science.
- Member of a relevant environmental professional body.
- Chartered member or working towards chartership.
Experience
- Considerable UK consultancy experience with private/public sector developers and operators on development/infrastructure projects.
Skills
- Strong background knowledge and analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Familiar with UK land contamination policy and guidance.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Collaborative, team-oriented, and client-focused.
- Commercial awareness of environmental consultancy procurement.
- Full UK driving licence and own transport.
- Familiar with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and Holebase.
