About The Role Pell Frischmann is seeking Seasonal Field Ecologists for the Luton office from March 2026 to November 2026, primarily to support field work and reporting related to bat surveying as part of a large infrastructure project in the Midlands. The role may extend or transition to permanent. You must have your own transport and be able to work dawn and dusk surveys.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake bat surveys using thermal and infrared cameras and handheld and automated detectors.
  • Coordinate ecological survey logistics and access arrangements.
  • Monitor site activities and liaise with the project team to ensure surveys are completed as scheduled and meet project requirements.
  • Analyse sound and video data collected during surveys.
  • Prepare input for bat survey reports.
  • Provide occasional desk‑based support to the wider ecology team, including report preparation and data searches.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

Qualifications:
  • Under‑graduate or postgraduate degree in Ecology, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Current CSCS card or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Some experience surveying a range of UK habitats and protected species (including bats, badger, otter, water vole, etc.).
  • Previous experience working within an engineering organisation.
  • Relevant experience in a similar capacity as an Ecological Clerk of Works.
Skills:
  • Full UK driver’s licence and ability to commute to the Luton office and sites in the Aylesbury area regularly, or willingness to stay in accommodation if required.
  • Good knowledge of relevant UK and EU wildlife legislation and protected species conservation.
  • Good knowledge of UK bats and their ecology.
  • Proficiency in bat sound analysis.
  • Competent use of technology for ecological surveying.
  • Sound knowledge of environmental constraints.
  • Good knowledge of bat survey methods, health and safety considerations.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in conveying ecological or environmental requirements to contractor teams.
