We are looking to hire for an experienced Senior Geoenvironmental Consultant in our Manchester or Exeter offices.
Weโre looking for candidates with strong technical backgrounds and working knowledge and experience applying land contamination risk management processes on a range of project, and someone that is keen to grow and develop their technical capability and seek to continually improve and refine these skills. Itโs essential that our work provides successful outcomes to our clients, candidates will need to apply their knowledge and skills to a broad range of projects and communicate the findings in a way that clearly explains the process undertaken, outcomes and consequences. Our projects are across the UK.
Our team is based across the UK with staff working out of or Exeter, London, Manchester, Croydon and Nottingham offices. We hold regular team training/mentoring days, predominantly in Exeter. UK travel will be part of the role for project meetings, site visits and team training and the main office for this role will be Exeter or Manchester.
Our project portfolio includes a diverse range of project types/sectors, sites and clients – so the ability to adapt and respond to Client requirements and to collaborate on bespoke deliverables will be essential. The team is responsible for supporting the wider business and winning our own work. Experience in scoping, bidding and delivering diverse and bespoke offerings would be an advantage.
Responsibilities
Undertaking technically accurate assessments and preparing clear and accurate technical reports will be an essential part of the role, along with supporting graduates and less experienced staff as the team grows. The team works in a collaborative way and places a strong focus on learning and development and refining skills. Candidates will be based in the geoenvironmental team working with one of our Associate Directors but will work on projects with geoenvironmental team members from across the company both remotely and in person. Liaison with internal and external clients (internal/external) including managing expectations is part of the day-to-day work.
- Maintaining and developing strong background knowledge
- Maintaining and developing technical knowledge and understanding, including with respect to the EAs Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM) Framework.
- Technical and communication skills to ensure good report outcomes
- Working towards and delivering high quality work (in accordance with good practice, relevant standards/legislation, Codes of Practice, current design methods and Health & Safety)
- Understanding and demonstrating the importance of effective communication in our technical work, including being able to communicate technical information in an understandable way.
- Ensuring deliverables meet the clientโs needs and are provided on time/budget and to high standards
- Planning tasks and workload to ensure projects are delivered on time/budget and to high standards
- Supporting geoenvironmental consultants/graduates (as the team grows)
- Project managing smaller projects and good commercial/financial awareness
- Contributing to bids and preparing simple bids
- Assist with business development and the promotion of the capabilities of the company.
- Ensure compliance with internal management system procedures.
Role
Land contamination risk management โ Undertaking the following assessment and preparing/contributing to the associated reports:
- Preliminary risk assessments (land contamination desk study, preparing preliminary conceptual site models, and outlining next steps)
- Site investigation scheme โ designing investigations; contributing to/preparing specifications and tender evaluations, overseeing fieldwork and scheduling geochemical analysis.
- Able to assess ground conditions and prepare ground models to support the development of a conceptual site model.
- Quantitative risk assessments (Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments (GQRA) (human health experience essential, ground gas and controlled waters โ beneficial)
- Detailed quantitative risk assessment (DQRA) (experience beneficial)
- Remediation options appraisal, Remediation strategy, Remediation verification and validation
- Fieldwork for site investigation supervision and remediation verification (in particular for Senior role)
Materials and waste โ experience in preparing and completing the following would be beneficial and will be part of the role (training can be provided):
- Waste classification assessments and waste acceptance assessments
- Material management strategies and material management plans
- Site won materials including Made Ground, natural soils and secondary aggregates from demolition.
Qualifications
- A Degree in (typically) environmental earth science/geoenvironmental/geological science
- Member of a relevant environmental professional body
- Chartered member (or working towards chartership) of a relevant professional body
Experience:
- Considerable years of experience working in a UK consultancy working for private / public-sector developers and operators, on a range of development / infrastructure projects.

- A full UK driving licence with own transport.
- Familiar with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and Holebase
