We are looking to hire a Graduate Civil Engineer in any of our Birmingham, Luton, Manchester or Wakefield offices for our September 2026 intake.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Graduate Highways & Infrastructure Engineer to join our multidisciplinary design team. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of transport and civil infrastructure projects across the UK. Your work will contribute to feasibility studies, concept development, detailed design, and preparation of construction information for a wide range of public and private‑sector clients. This role will be hybrid and can be based from either our Wakefield, Luton, Birmingham or Manchester offices. This is an excellent opportunity to begin your professional development within a collaborative, design‑driven consultancy environment. You will gain hands‑on experience with UK design standards, digital design tools, and multi‑disciplinary working, while building the technical foundation required for progression toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. You will be enrolled in our 2‑3 year grad programme where you will receive on the job training and development, as well as focus on our general commercial awareness and personal effectiveness.
Right to Work Requirements
We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role due to salary thresholds. Applicants must already have the existing, unrestricted right to work in the UK for the full duration of our 2 to 3 year graduate programme. Unfortunately, this means we cannot accept applications where the right to work is time‑limited and would expire before the programme ends.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of highways, active travel routes, junctions, drainage, and public‑realm schemes.
- Prepare 2D and 3D design models, drawings, and technical documents using industry‑standard software (e.g., Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage).
- Support feasibility studies and optioneering exercises, including geometric alignment design and appraisal of design constraints.
- Contribute to technical reports, design statements, and design‑stage risk assessments.
- Collaborate with engineers, environmental specialists, planners, and other disciplines in delivering coordinated design solutions.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, bill of quantities, and tender documentation.
- Participate in site visits, surveys, and inspections to gather information and support construction‑phase work.
- Engage in internal CPD, graduate training programmes, and mentorship to support your professional development.
Essential Requirements

- Student membership of ICE or CIHT
Experience
- Exposure to highways, drainage, or transport engineering concepts through academic projects
- Internship, placement, or summer experience in consultancy or contracting
