We are expanding our Flood and Water Management team and are hiring for a Senior Civil Engineer.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented Civil Engineer to join our growing Flood and Water Management team, supporting the delivery of flood alleviation schemes, reservoir and storage infrastructure projects, sustainable drainage solutions and wider water sector programmes across the UK.

Whether you are an experienced Engineer looking for the next step, a Senior Engineer seeking greater project responsibility, or a Principal/Associate-level professional interested in technical leadership, we would love to hear from you.

You'll play a key role in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that help communities, clients and infrastructure adapt to the challenges of climate change, increasing flood risk and water resource demands.

Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to projects ranging from feasibility and outline design through to detailed design, construction support and asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver the civil design of flood risk management and water infrastructure projects.
  • Develop solutions for reservoir storage, balancing ponds, attenuation systems and flood alleviation schemes.
  • Undertake hydraulic and hydrological assessments to inform engineering design.
  • Design earthworks, embankments, spillways, outlet structures and associated civil infrastructure.
  • Deliver surface water and drainage strategies, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (Su DS).
  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, design packages and specifications.
  • Support reservoir safety inspections, improvements and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulators, stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Manage project delivery, budgets, programmes and resources where appropriate.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and graduates.
  • Contribute to business development activities, framework opportunities and client relationship management.
  • What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the planning, design or delivery of flood risk, water management or reservoir projects.
  • Knowledge of UK design standards, industry guidance and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience producing engineering calculations, reports and technical designs.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership.
  • Experience working with Environment Agency, local authorities, water companies or infrastructure clients.
  • Knowledge of Reservoirs Act requirements and reservoir safety principles.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW or similar.
  • Understanding of Water Framework Directive, environmental assessments and permitting requirements.
  • Experience managing project finances, programmes and client relationships.
