Due to growth in our Land Development team, we are keen to hire for an Associate Director to join our Exeter office.

Main Purpose of the Job

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our growing Transport/Highways team with a focus on supporting the growth of our team in South West England. Our south west team delivers a mix of transport planning and highway design, including S38 / S278 design and you will have strong experience in one or both of these works areas. We work across both private and public sectors.

You will support the Technical Director for the South West team in managing project delivery and managing staff including development of early careers colleagues as a part of their Learning and Development.

We are looking for someone who has good connection with associated consultants, particularly town planners and architects and have the potential to generate new opportunities of work and revenue.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To manage projects across a wide range of transport planning and/or highway design areas including site feasibility, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and site access design including S38/S278.
  • Be responsible for teams delivering high quality technical work and for developing staff skills through project delivery.
  • To manage and generate new opportunities.
  • Manage and develop the team reporting to them
    • Prepare technical reports, strategies and transport solutions.
    • Implement Traffic and Transport methodologies with the assistance of the supporting technical team
      • Liaise with clients and local/national authorities.
      • Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives.
      • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation in working practices.

What Qualifications, Experience & Skills are required?

Essential

  • Degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning or a related subject (essential).

Preferred

  • MSc in Transport Planning/Engineering.
  • Chartered with a relevant professional institution.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of Transport Planning experience (the level of experience will determine what level you come in as).
  • Demonstrable track record in winning and delivering projects.
  • A proven ability to build client relationships.
  • Experience in highway/junction design at least at the concept and preliminary design level.
  • Experience of working with public and private sector clients.
  • Experience in delivering a range of projects across different land uses and scales.
  • Develop and manage a team of skilled individuals.
  • Efficient communication skills, excellent level of written and spoken English.

Preferred Experience

  • Project Management in a range of projects at both low and higher values.
  • Able user of junction modelling packages.
  • Knowledge of current transport and highway policy.
  • Existing work winner.
