We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician to work 3-4 days per week (24-32 hours per week) to support our friendly practice pharmacy team. The successful candidate will be working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to our patient population.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the safe, efficient, and accurate management of medicines within the GP practice.
  • The Pharmacy Technician will work across both practice sites, supporting repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, and maintaining high-quality patient records using EMIS Web.

About us

The Practice operates across two sites and has a patient list of over 15,500 with 4 Partners and 3 salaried GPs. The GPs are also currently supported by an ANP, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 Healthcare Assistants, a Paramedic, Physician Assistant, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, a Mental Health Nurse, and Care Coordinator. The Practice achieved a Good rating in all 5 service questions in our most recent CQC inspection. We are a training practice and usually host at least two trainees and we offer a number of enhanced services. Pelham Road Surgery is located a 2 minute walk from Gravesend Train Station with excellent fast train links to London, Ebbsfleet International (Eurostar) and Bluewater. Both surgeries also benefit from ample free parking which is available to all staff and patients. Pelham are looking to move into a new purpose-built Medical Practice in the next 2-3 years which will accommodate over 20,000 patients.

Job responsibilities

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Repeat Prescribing & Medication Management
      • Process repeat prescription requests accurately and in a timely manner.
      • Maintain and update repeat medication records.
      • Ensure prescribing is in line with practice protocols across both sites.
      • Support medication synchronisation for patients.
    • EMIS System Use
      • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medication records in EMIS.
      • Code medications, allergies, and clinical data appropriately.
      • Process hospital discharge summaries and outpatient correspondence.
      • Use EMIS tasks, templates, and workflows to manage queries.
      • Run searches and reports to identify patients for reviews and recalls.
    • Medication Safety & Reviews
      • Identify and escalate prescribing issues (e.g. interactions, duplications).
      • Support monitoring of high-risk medications.
      • Implement drug safety alerts and recalls.
      • Respond to patient medication queries (within scope of role).
      • Support medication adherence and understanding.
      • Signpost patients to appropriate clinicians when needed.
    • Audit & Quality Improvement
      • Support internal prescribing audits and quality improvement work.
      • Assist with achieving practice targets (e.g. QOF).
      • Maintain accurate records for audit and compliance.
    • Communication & Team Working
      • Work collaboratively with clinicians and admin teams across both sites.
      • Liaise with community pharmacies and secondary care providers.
      • Ensure clear, consistent documentation within EMIS.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Experience in pharmacy practice (community, hospital, or primary care).
  • Understanding of repeat prescribing processes.
  • Experience in a GP practice setting.
  • Familiarity with EMIS Web.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong IT and EMIS system skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise workload across two sites.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

  • Based across two practice sites.
  • Requirement to travel between sites as part of the role.
  • Standard working hours with some flexibility.

Person Specification

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Experience working in a pharmacy setting (community, hospital, or primary care).
  • Experience in repeat prescribing and medication management processes.
  • Experience using clinical systems (e.g. EMIS Web or similar).
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Experience working in a GP practice or Primary Care setting.
  • Familiarity with EMIS Web.
  • Experience supporting medication reviews and medicines optimisation.
  • Experience managing hospital discharge information and medication reconciliation.
