As an Android Engineer, you'll play a key role in evolving Pelago's member experience through our mobile appâthe primary touchpoint for members engaging with their care journey. You'll maintain and enhance our Android codebase while helping to pioneer our transition to a crossâplatform architecture built on Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP). You'll collaborate closely with Android, iOS and shared platform engineers, as well as product managers and designers, to deliver features that are performant, reliable and delightful. This is a handsâon development role that balances technical execution with creative problemâsolvingâensuring Pelago's mobile app remains worldâclass as it scales to reach more members globally. This role is based in our London office, with inâperson collaboration two days per week (flexible for candidates living outside a 1âhour commute; priority given to Londonâbased hires).
What you'll do:
- Build and maintain Pelago's Android application, delivering exceptional experiences for members.
- Contribute to our crossâplatform app development using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP).
- Implement new features, ensuring highâquality code, maintainability and adherence to Android and crossâplatform best practices.
- Collaborate with designers and product managers to review wireframes and propose elegant, scalable solutions.
- Partner with backend and shared platform engineers to integrate APIs and optimise app performance.
- Maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines (using Bitrise) for fast, reliable releases.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions and agile ceremonies, contributing to an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture.
- Help define and document architectural patterns to support Pelago's crossâplatform evolution.
About you:
- 4+ years of professional experience in Android development.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin, with working knowledge of Java.
- Solid understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).
- Handsâon experience with Jetpack Compose, Hilt, Retrofit and related Android libraries.
- Exposure to or enthusiasm for Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP).
- Experience integrating REST APIs and managing network/data layers efficiently.
- Familiarity with Bitrise or equivalent CI/CD pipelines.
- Comfortable working in an agile, collaborative environment with crossâfunctional teams.
- Based in London or within commuting distance (2 days/week inâoffice).
Nice to have:
- Experience contributing to crossâplatform mobile apps using KMP or CMP in production.
- Familiarity with dependency injection frameworks (Hilt, Koin) and local data storage (SQLDelight, Room).
- Experience improving build performance and optimising Gradle configurations.
- Understanding of iOS development concepts (to aid collaboration across teams).
- Knowledge of mobile app security and performance best practices.
