We’re looking for a private equity deal reporter to join PEI Group’s welcoming, diverse, and growing team based here in London. The successful candidate will cover the fast-paced world of private equity dealmaking for PE Hub, sourcing and writing brief press release-based stories on quick deadlines, identifying and analysing M&A trends, as well as producing longer-term features, profiles and columns.

The Reporter will:

  • Initially work with the editor, develop and eventually exercise independent news judgement to decide which press releases to summarise.
  • Manage time and organise work to keep up with news flow.
  • Coordinate with public relations contacts on press releases, including those under embargo.
  • Work closely with editor and other reporters on daily copy flow.
  • Produce content that leads with analysis and informed perspective, collaborating with the editor on ideas, sourcing and story structures.
  • Write articles that profile firms and people, identify and analyse trends in PE transactions and other community developments, including key personnel moves.

At all times, the goal is to seek out the impact of those developments rather than merely recounting the news.

Qualification & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in business or financial reporting preferred.
  • Experience covering private equity or related financial fields a plus.
  • Familiarity with financial markets and investing, especially private equity.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, such as LinkedIn.
  • Computer proficiency, such as using the Microsoft Office Suite, online search tools, databases, WordPress.

The successful candidate will:

  • Produce occasional articles consistent with PE Hub’s mission of delivering exclusive news, analyses, and feature articles.
  • Conduct interviews and actively develop relationships with sources, especially private equity partners, investment bankers and other deal advisors, and readers.
  • Attend industry events (PEI and external, in-person or virtual). Depending on experience and topic expertise, participate as moderator or other comparable role at such events, which may include travel.
  • Assist where necessary with aspects of the content production process, including sourcing PEI data and research, optimizing for SEO, and identifying and sourcing images for use with articles (photos, charts, etc).
  • Identify and use proprietary and third-party data in coverage.
  • Produce tables and infographics.
  • In alignment with content strategy, use social media, primarily LinkedIn, to amplify content.
  • Potential duties may also include participation in podcasts, videos, etc.

This role will involve gaining access to and publishing sensitive and privileged information. The reporter will be expected to understand and adhere to journalistic ethics and consult with editors on any potential conflicts.
