We’re looking for a Senior Private Equity Deal Reporter to join PEI Group’s welcoming, diverse, and growing team based here in London. The successful candidate will cover the fast‑paced world of private equity dealmaking for PE Hub in Europe. This position is weighted heavily toward original reporting and involves breaking deal news, writing exclusives on companies coming to market, identifying and analysing M&A trends, as well as producing longer‑form features, profiles and columns.
The Senior Reporter will aim to produce content that leads with analysis and informed perspective. This will involve collaborating with editors on ideas, sourcing, and story structures with an eye to delivering valuable information that consistently speaks to our core audience of private equity professionals and deal advisors.
The Senior Reporter will also take the lead on some projects and will demonstrate leadership in other ways as part of a team of reporters, including potentially editing articles and helping to train reporters with less experience. Other responsibilities will include writing e‑newsletters and articles that profile firms and people, identify and analyse trends in PE transactions and other community developments, including key personnel moves. At all times, the goal is to seek out the impact of those developments rather than merely recounting the news.
The successful candidate will:
- Produce at least three articles each week consistent with PE Hub’s mission of delivering exclusive news, analyses, and feature articles.
- Break news and deliver scoops frequently.
- Author the PE Hub Wire morning newsletter on a regular basis, beginning with once per week and growing in frequency over time.
- Conduct interviews and actively develop relationships with a network of sources, especially private equity partners, investment bankers and other deal advisors.
- Incorporate internal and external data into stories as context and in some instances to inform the angle of the story.
- Communicate and collaborate with colleagues across PEI’s Private Equity group as appropriate to optimize content planning, coordination and execution.
- Have a strong contact book of private equity practitioners, investment bankers and others in the industry.
- Attend industry events (PEI and external, in‑person or virtual) and represent PE Hub as an ambassador.
- Assist where necessary with aspects of the content production process, including sourcing PEI data and research, optimizing for SEO/SEO, and identifying and sourcing images for use with articles.
- Share expertise with less experienced reporters on the team and company.
- Use social media, primarily LinkedIn, to amplify content in line with content strategy.
- Potential duties may also include participation in podcasts, videos, etc.
This role will involve gaining access to and publishing sensitive and privileged information. The reporter will be expected to understand and adhere to journalistic ethics and consult with editors on any potential conflicts.
