Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager The Opportunity An established global consultancy is looking to appoint a Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager to support the delivery of major, complex projects and programmes across the Energy, Infrastructure and Natural Resources sectors . This is an opportunity to join a growing Project Controls and Risk capability, working alongside project delivery, planning, cost and controls professionals on high-profile programmes. Depending on your experience, you could be operating as part of a wider risk team or taking the lead as the Risk Management subject matter expert on a major project or programme. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll work closely with project and programme teams to establish, maintain and improve effective risk management processes. Key responsibilities will include: Planning, designing and implementing risk management processes tailored to individual projects, programmes and client requirements. Facilitating risk workshops with project teams and subject matter experts to identify, assess and regularly review risks and uncertainties. Creating, maintaining and assuring project and programme risk registers. Challenging risk information to improve data quality and ensure risks, assumptions and mitigations accurately reflect the project environment. Developing clear, measurable mitigation actions and working with delivery teams to track their implementation. Undertaking Quantitative Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis (QCRA/QSRA) , including risk modelling and interpretation of outputs. Using quantitative analysis to understand remaining project exposure, inform contingency requirements and identify where management attention will have the greatest impact. Producing clear and timely risk reporting for project teams, senior stakeholders and clients. Working closely with Planning, Cost, Change and wider Project Controls teams to maintain alignment across project information. Supporting robust performance baselines and change control processes where required. Working with contractors and the wider supply chain to understand and incorporate their risks within the overall project position. Promoting good risk management practice across project and programme teams. At Senior Risk Manager level Your responsibilities may also include: Acting as the Risk Management subject matter expert for major projects or programmes. Leading and developing teams of Risk Management professionals. Reviewing and improving existing risk management frameworks and processes. Leading the implementation of new risk approaches, systems and ways of working. Coaching clients and less experienced colleagues in risk management principles and practices. Designing and delivering risk management training. Supporting career development and performance management within the team. Contributing to the continued development of the wider Risk and Project Controls capability. About You You’ll have experience working within project or programme risk management , ideally within complex capital programmes across Energy, Infrastructure, Natural Resources, Defence or another major-project environment. You should be comfortable working with technical project teams while also being able to translate complex risk information into something useful for senior stakeholders. We’re particularly interested in candidates with: Experience managing risk across multiple projects and/or programmes. Knowledge of recognised risk management standards and approaches such as ISO 31000, APM PRAM, the Orange Book or IPA guidance . Practical understanding of quantitative risk assessment techniques, including Monte Carlo analysis. Experience undertaking or contributing to QCRA and/or QSRA . Experience using recognised quantitative risk analysis software such as Primavera Risk Analysis, @RISK or Safran Risk . Familiarity with risk database tools and risk management systems. An understanding of the relationship between Risk Management and wider Project Controls disciplines, particularly Planning, Cost, Change and Reporting. Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail. The confidence to challenge risk information constructively rather than simply administer the process. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. The ability to interpret client requirements and adapt risk processes accordingly. A proactive approach to identifying problems and improving how risk is managed. The ability to work effectively through periods of change and complexity. For more senior appointments, previous experience leading teams, developing risk frameworks and acting as the risk lead on major programmes would be particularly valuable. Experience of NEC3/NEC4 contracts would also be beneficial. Professional qualifications through organisations such as the Association for Project Management (APM), Institute of Risk Management (IRM) or Management of Risk (MoR) are advantageous but not essential. The ability to travel to client sites when required will also be important. Why Consider It?
