Pegasus Search & Selection is partnering with one of the UK's most significant infrastructure organisations as they embark on a multi-billion-pound heavy civil engineering programme. This long-term national investment includes the delivery of complex assets on a scale comparable to major nuclear, tunnelling, energy, defence, rail and underground station projects.
Our client is strengthening their senior commercial and contract management capability to support this next generation of major infrastructure.
The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to join a client-side Major Projects team at senior level, taking full commercial leadership for a large, complex programme involving major civils, structures, heavy engineering and energy-related assets. Project values range from £20m to over £1bn, covering large-scale earthworks, major structures, complex civils interfaces, M&E-heavy systems, industrial facilities and major enabling works.
You will provide full cost, commercial and contract management across the project lifecycle — from early-stage strategy and risk planning to procurement, negotiation, contract administration and final account. The scale, complexity and engineering challenge align with major UK schemes such as:
- Nuclear new build
- Large underground station developments
- Major rail and mass transit upgrades
- Energy infrastructure and industrial mega-projects
- Large-scale tunnelling and deep civils works
You will be a critical commercial leader within a high-performing team of engineers, PMs, legal advisors and technical specialists, as well as external contractors and consultancies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cost and contract management for high-value, complex engineering projects with minimal supervision.
- Full responsibility for cost planning, budget management, reporting and commercial governance.
- Administer and manage NEC4 contracts across a range of major works packages.
- Oversee and challenge the performance of external cost consultants.
- Shape procurement strategies and support tendering at all stages.
- Prepare, review and strengthen contract documentation to ensure robust risk allocation.
- Provide expert input into commercial strategy, dispute avoidance and project decision-making.
- Ensure alignment with organisational best practice and statutory requirements.
About You
We are seeking a senior commercial leader with experience on major, complex civil engineering or industrial infrastructure projects. Essential experience includes:
- Strong background in cost, commercial and contract management on large-scale civils/infrastructure schemes.
- Experience on complex programmes such as:
- Nuclear (Hinkley, Sizewell, SMR, decommissioning)
- Major rail/underground stations
- Mass transit or tunnelling schemes
- Energy, industrial or manufacturing mega-projects
- Complex heavy civils & structures
What's on Offer
A career-defining opportunity to work on one of the UK's most significant heavy engineering projects of the next decade. Long-term programme with major investment and substantial engineering challenge. Excellent benefits package including pension, private medical and flexible benefits. A culture that values innovation, safety, continuous improvement and talent development. Full support for professional growth and career progression.
Successful applicants will be subject to standard pre-employment screening and medical checks in line with major infrastructure requirements. This will also include gaining BPSS.
