We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of complex infrastructure and defence-related programmes. This role offers the opportunity to work across large-scale construction and infrastructure projects, providing commercial and cost management expertise throughout the full project lifecycle.
Projects typically range from several hundred thousand pounds in value through to major programmes exceeding £200m, across sectors including infrastructure, logistics and defence. Due to increasing project demand, we are expanding the team and looking for individuals who want to develop their careers while working on technically challenging and high-profile programmes.
Important: Due to the sensitive nature of these projects, applicants must be sole UK nationality and able to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC).
Location: Merseyside – approximately 4 days per week on client site. Ability to travel to other project locations across the UK as required.
This position offers an opportunity for experienced Quantity Surveyors or Commercial Managers with a background in major infrastructure, construction or civil engineering projects to contribute to high-value programmes within the infrastructure and logistics sector, while also developing experience within the UK defence environment. You will work as part of a collaborative project team, providing commercial insight, cost management expertise and contract administration across the delivery of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Contract Management
- Provide commercial advice across major infrastructure projects.
- Lead procurement activities including tender preparation, evaluation and contract award.
- Develop negotiation strategies and establish robust contractual arrangements.
- Manage change control processes and contract amendments.
- Engage with a range of stakeholders including clients, contractors and design teams.
- Prepare and review cost estimates for infrastructure and civil engineering works.
- Develop cost plans and pricing models aligned with project scope and risk.
- Support benchmarking and cost intelligence activities.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and project teams to ensure cost-efficient delivery solutions.
- Administer contracts including valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs and performance against approved budgets.
- Prepare cost reports and financial forecasts for client review.
- Ensure compliance with standard forms of contract including NEC3, NEC4 and JCT.
Requirements
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in quantity surveying or commercial management on major construction, infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of procurement, contract placement and post-award contract management.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience working with NEC and JCT contracts.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable
- Knowledge of UK Government procurement frameworks such as QDC, DSPCR or PCR.
- Professional membership (e.g. RICS, CICES or CIPS) or working towards chartership.
- Experience using cost management software such as CostX, CATO or advanced Excel.
- Experience supporting bid preparation or tender evaluation.
