Help us build a great place to work
Pegasus Care is growing, and we’re looking for an exceptionally organised, proactive and people-focused People & Culture Lead to help us build the culture, consistency and people experience that will support our next chapter.
Our purpose is simple:
Changing lives through empowerment and enablement.
That starts with having great people who feel supported, recognised, developed and clear about what is expected of them.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who likes making things happen.
You’ll work closely with our Registered Managers, Service Leads and senior leadership team across the Group, providing the structure, support and accountability that helps our managers lead their teams well.
You’ll know what is happening across our workforce, what needs completing, what is overdue and where support or intervention is required — and you’ll make sure nothing falls through the gaps.
You’ll also have access to external employment and legal advisers when specialist advice is required.
Your role is to make sure good people practice becomes consistent action across our services.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll have central oversight of the employee journey across Pegasus:
Recruitment → Onboarding → Probation → Supervision → Development → Appraisal → Recognition → Performance → Progression → Exit
You’ll make sure our services have the systems, tools, guidance and support they need, while providing central oversight to ensure agreed actions actually happen.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating recruitment and maintaining oversight of vacancies
- Supporting effective onboarding and pre‑employment processes
- Ensuring contracts and employee documentation are accurate and completed
- Monitoring probation reviews and outcomes
- Maintaining oversight of supervision and appraisal processes
- Supporting sickness, absence and return‑to‑work processes
- Maintaining oversight of DBS and Right to Work requirements
- Ensuring employee records and personnel files are accurate and current
- Coordinating contractual changes
- Managing leaver and exit processes
- Maintaining People systems, trackers and workforce information
- Coordinating equality monitoring and workforce surveys
- Supporting employee engagement initiatives
- Driving colleague recognition and staff awards
- Supporting learning, development and career progression
- Helping managers apply our values consistently throughout the employee journey
Most importantly, you’ll be expected to proactively identify what needs attention rather than waiting for someone to tell you.
Supporting our managers
Our managers remain responsible for managing their teams.
Your role is to make sure they have the tools, support and accountability to do that well.
You’ll support them.
You’ll guide them.
You’ll remind them.
And, when necessary, you’ll chase them.
You’ll build strong relationships with managers across our services while being confident enough to challenge when something isn’t happening as it should.
Employee relations
You’ll coordinate people processes across the Group, including:
Disciplinaries | Grievances | Investigations | Capability | Performance | Attendance | Probation
You won’t be expected to be an employment lawyer.
We have access to external specialist advice when required.
What we do expect is for you to own the process and see it through.
That means making sure the right advice is obtained, managers understand what they need to do, evidence and meeting notes are available, documentation is completed, deadlines are met and actions are followed through to conclusion.
Compliance and assurance
We operate in a regulated sector, so good people practice must also be something we can evidence.
You’ll maintain central oversight of our key workforce requirements and ensure services are completing the processes expected of them.
If something is missing, you’ll find it.
If something is overdue, you’ll chase it.
If something presents a risk, you’ll escape it.
When evidence is required, it should be accurate, current and readily available.
People information that drives action
You’ll help ensure our People systems provide an accurate picture of our workforce.
You’ll maintain oversight across areas such as:
Headcount | Vacancies | Recruitment | Turnover | Sickness | Probation | Supervisions | Appraisals | Employee Relations | Compliance
But this isn’t about producing reports for the sake of reporting.
We want someone who can understand what the information is telling us, identify where attention is needed and make sure the right people take action.
People and culture
Process and compliance matter, but great organisations are built by great people.
You’ll help us continue to develop a culture where people understand our values, feel recognised for great work and have opportunities to develop.
You’ll help coordinate:
- colleague engagement;
- workforce surveys;
- equality monitoring;
- recognition and awards;
- development and progression;
- communication around our people initiatives; and
- actions arising from colleague feedback.
We don’t want good ideas or important feedback disappearing into a spreadsheet. You’ll help make sure they lead to action.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be someone who genuinely enjoys working with people but is equally comfortable creating structure, maintaining standards and holding others accountable.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Practical experience within a People & Culture, employee relations or generalist people role
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- A proactive approach rather than waiting for issues to come to you
- Experience supporting disciplinary, grievance, capability and other employee‑relations processes
- A good understanding of UK employment practice
- Confidence working with external employment and legal advisers
- The ability to support and appropriately challenge managers
- Excellent attention to detail and record keeping
- Confidence using People systems, trackers and workforce data
- The ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines and priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The confidence to communicate with colleagues at every level
- A genuine interest in employee experience, engagement and culture
- The ability to work independently while collaborating across different teams and locations
Experience within adult social care, healthcare or another regulated environment would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
A CIPD qualification, or working towards one, would also be useful, but we’re equally interested in practical experience, attitude and your ability to make things happen.
What does success look like?
You’ll know you’re making a difference when:
- Nothing falls through the gaps
- Managers know what they need to do and when
- Our people processes are consistent across our services
- New colleagues have a positive and organised experience from the start
- Probations, supervisions and appraisals happen when they should
- Employee matters are progressed promptly and have a clear audit trail
- Our records are accurate and our deadlines are visible
- Our services can evidence good workforce practice
- Our people feel listened to, recognised and supported to develop
- Great work is noticed and celebrated
- Our leadership team has an accurate picture of our workforce
- Actions are followed through rather than simply recorded
Sound like you?
If you’re passionate about people, exceptionally organised and get genuine satisfaction from creating order, supporting managers and making sure things are done properly and on time, we’d love to hear from you.
This is an opportunity to have real influence across a growing organisation and help us shape the people experience and culture that will support the future of Pegasus Care.
