HR Manager (People Ops, ER & Compliance) – Independent Schools Group

We\’re partnering with a
growing family of exceptional independent schools
to hire their first
central HR Manager
.

This is a newly created role in a warm, close-knit head office team (c.30 people split across two UK offices), supporting a UK workforce of
c.850 colleagues
across
11 schools
(with some local HR support on site). The group has grown rapidly (4 β†’ 11 schools) and is expanding internationally β€” meaning real scope for this role to develop over time.

Right now, the priority is the UK: they\’ve had a gap in HR capability for several months, so they need an HR professional who can
bring structure, confidence and calm
β€” particularly around
employee relations and employment law
.

The role (what you\’ll be doing)…

This is a hands-on, end-to-end HR position, covering:

  • Employee relations
    : advising managers on performance, conduct, absence, grievance and sensitive cases (with access to external employment lawyers where needed).
  • Operational HR
    : onboarding, contracts, policy and process ownership, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Compliance & recruitment administration
    : right-to-work and related checks (and exposure to sponsor scheme compliance where relevant).
  • Audit & consistency
    : periodic HR compliance audits across schools (desktop-led, with occasional site visits).
  • Capability & reporting
    : HR MI, engagement survey admin, training and cyclical people processes.
  • Build agenda
    : opportunity to support HR systems/projects over the next 12–18 months.

Who this will suit…

You\’ll likely be:

  • A confident HR generalist with
    strong UK employment law
    and solid ER case ownership
  • Comfortable operating
    standalone
    (rolling sleeves up, creating order, and being a trusted \”go-to\”)
  • Great with stakeholders at all levels β€” practical, calm, discreet, and well organised
  • CIPD qualified
    (or qualified by experience and working towards)

Education experience is helpful but not essential β€” what matters most is your
ER strength, judgement, and ability to bring structure
in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.

Working pattern & location

  • Based from
    King\’s Langley
    in a friendly, welcoming central team.
  • Initially
    on-site is preferred each day
    to embed properly and work closely with the Finance & Payroll Manager.
  • That said, this isn\’t a \”rigid hours\” culture β€” there\’s flexibility for school runs etc., as long as you\’re present and engaged day-to-day.

Reporting line

You\’ll work very closely with the
Finance & Payroll Manager
and the
Group Finance & Operations leadership
, with strong visibility and genuine runway to progress as the function grows.
