Port Operations Apprenticeships Are you looking for an opportunity to build a career in port operations while gaining a recognised qualification? Do you enjoy working with customers, being part of a team and learning from experienced people who want to help you succeed? If you are ready to develop new skills in a busy, hands-on operational environment, this could be the ideal role for you.

Your role As a Port Operative at the Port of Greenock, you will help keep goods moving safely and efficiently for customers through the port, working across warehouse and quayside operational activities while completing a structured apprenticeship that will lead to an SVQ Port Operations SCQF Level 5 qualification in port operations. You will help service our customers, support drivers and hauliers arriving at the port and work closely with experienced colleagues who will share their knowledge, invest in your development and help you build confidence across a range of port activities.

This role forms the start of a structured career path in port operations. This role is classified as safety critical. Your duties in this role may include driving on site; working at height and/or in confined spaces; operating/driving plant; manual handling; lone working; night work. If successful in your application, you will be required to attend a pre-placement medical assessment to confirm your fitness for work in this role.

What you'll bring We are seeking people who are motivated to learn, keen to contribute and comfortable working in a customer-focused operational environment. You may bring:

  • experience supporting customers in a warehouse, retail or supermarket distribution centre setting;
  • confidence in contributing to a team;
  • a positive, customer-focused approach;
  • a commitment to your own development and willing to complete structured training as part of an apprenticeship pathway;
  • good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications;
  • flexibility to support operational needs and play your part in the effective running of the Port of Greenock. Who are we?
