Purpose of the role

To lead and manage client relationships and interfaces across the Senior Leadership Team on Major Projects:

  • Manage the customer relationships at Mersey Heat, Vistry and other cross-functional projects/clients as may be assigned by the Associate Director.
  • Set delivery strategies as appropriate to the service being managed.
  • Create, maintain and manage process maps for end-to-end service delivery for major projects, agreed with SLT and ensure delivery for clients against process gates.
  • Ensure projects and services are compliant with a changing legislative framework and that legislative and client governance requirements are met.
  • Working with the Associate Director, ensure that delivery partners are working to contract in support of/with support from appropriate SLT members in all areas of delivery.
  • Be responsible for multiple client, customer and stakeholder management, with accountability for the virtual teams delivering projects.
  • Provide additional support into the Pre-Construction team as directed by the Associate Director.
  • Provide cross-Ener-Vate support as directed by the Associate Director.

Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications required:

  • Significant experience in stakeholder management, managing senior-management level relationships up to board level as appropriate in complex customer organisations and/or public sector organisations.
  • Significant experience in energy related public sector governance, structures, insight and policy, ideally gained through direct engagement with policy entities.
  • Experience of developing and leading the execution of Stakeholder Management and Project Management and Execution Plans.
  • Experience of delivering the Project Execution Plans for heat networks, including management of the customer journey/experience.
  • Critical eye for detail, in terms of supplier management in discharge of their Scope of Works/Contracts on behalf of customers.
  • Experience of effectively leading multi-disciplinary virtual project teams made up of internal and external resources.
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple customers, conflicting demands and deadlines through effective time management.
  • Excellent presentation and report writing skills for a variety of customer types and forums.
  • Personnel management and delegation skills to direct and/or virtual teams.
  • Experience in successful application to government support schemes for the district heating industry e.g. HNIP, GHNF, LCITP, Salix, PSDS.

Desired Skills/Experience preferred:

  • Project management experience demonstrated through PRINCE 2 or similar Association of Project Managers qualification.
  • Technical and commercial competency in order to challenge as appropriate technical and commercial assumptions where they impact the commercial model.
  • Experience of successfully lobbying government organisations at local, regional and central government levels.

Duties of the role:

  • Support the Directors on all major projects as the ESCo co-ordination point for governance and service delivery.
  • Provide monthly performance reporting to the Directors, utilising information from the SLT as part of the Governance regime.
  • Ensure processes are developed that are fit for purpose, lean and legal across projects legislative and contractual requirements, with buy-in from SLT and ensure delivery.
  • Attend and present at client review meetings ensuring contract compliance and best practice is developed and adopted as beneficial to the contract.
  • Provide internal and external reporting on project performance and contract profitability.
  • Lead on major project strategy and co-ordination on UK wide DHN projects.
  • Review and adapt services as a result of customer negotiations for connection agreements, with appropriate support from SLT.
  • Prepare/ensure contractors have prepared appropriate reporting materials for discharge of contract and contractor performance reviews and hold to account for non-performance against contracts.
  • Support the Technical Manager on the interpretation and implementation of the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme and any relevant updates, both for Ener-Vate and Clients.
  • Be accountable for the overall output as defined within the contracted project scope to the agreed time, budget and quality outcomes working with other department Heads.

ESG responsibilities:

  • To support Peel L&P in responding effectively to the risks and opportunities presented by climate change and meeting our internal ESG Concrete Goal:
  • Report progress on sustainability and ESG at Board meetings.
  • Demonstrate a positive contribution towards Peel L&P’s 7 ESG Indicators.
  • Apply the Development Director Toolkit to all projects.
  • Work closely with the Sustainability Team to ensure the following studies are undertaken for projects at the earliest opportunity:
  • Biodiversity net gain assessment.
  • Natural capital net gain assessment.
  • Carbon appraisals.
  • Social Value Framework.
  • Embed sustainability and ESG considerations into processes and projects, and highlight innovative ways of doing so.
  • Be carbon literate and have the necessary skills to embed sustainability considerations into your role.
  • Health & Safety requirements:

    • Completion of all mandatory compliance training.
    • Completion of risk assessments as required.
