We’re recruiting for an experienced Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Administrator who wants to build their development capabilities and progress towards a more technical BC role.
This is deliberately not a development-only position. Around 75% of the role is focused on Business Central administration, with the remaining 25% centred on hands-on development, giving you the opportunity to grow your AL skills while taking ownership of a live BC environment.
You’ll be joining an established, product-led business operating within the broader construction and manufacturing supply chain, with Business Central playing an important part in its ongoing digitalisation.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll take day-to-day ownership of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including:
- Managing users, licences, roles, permissions and security groups
- Maintaining configuration across posting groups, dimensions, number series, workflows and job queues
- Supporting item and lot tracking
- Managing data imports, bulk updates, cleansing and master data
- Managing sandbox environments and Microsoft update cycles
- Maintaining extensions and AppSource applications
- Building reports, Excel layouts, views and Role Centre personalisations
- Troubleshooting BC issues and supporting users across the business
- Managing change requests and working with external Microsoft partners and application vendors
- Maintaining system documentation and user guides
- Training and supporting Business Central users.
Alongside the administration work, you’ll start taking on straightforward AL development in Visual Studio Code, including table/page extensions, additional fields, simple reports and smaller process improvements. Development is tested in sandbox environments and managed through controlled release and source-control processes.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need:
- 3-5 years' hands-on experience administering Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or Dynamics NAV
- Strong knowledge of BC configuration, including users and permissions, posting groups, dimensions, workflows and configuration packages
- Experience with BC data management, including imports, bulk updates, cleansing and reconciliationStrong Excel skills
- Experience troubleshooting issues and supporting non-technical users
- A structured approach to testing, change and documentation
- A genuine desire to develop your Business Central development skills, ideally with evidence of learning through Microsoft Learn, sandbox environments or smaller extensions.
Desirable
It would be advantageous to have:
- Some AL development experience using Visual Studio Code
- Experience within manufacturing, distribution or stock-holding environments
- Knowledge of item tracking, batch/lot control or warehousing within BC
- Experience working alongside a Microsoft implementation/support partner
- Report-layout experience across Word, Excel or RDLC
- Familiarity with Git/source control
- MB-800 certification, or currently working towards it
- Business Central Functional Consultant experience
- Exposure to implementations or project-based BC work.
Progression
This position has been designed for somebody who is already strong functionally and administratively but wants to become more technical. You’ll have opportunities to work alongside an external Microsoft partner on larger developments and gradually take on more in-house BC development as your skills progress, potentially moving towards a Business Central Developer or senior systems role.
