Reports to: Scheme Manager

Location: London, Westminster with remote working also available. We are open to consideration of the individual circumstances for suitable candidates.

Salary: This is offered initially as a part time role, 0.6 FTE (3 days per week) with an equivalent, full-time salary circa £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience (pro-rata to £16,800 - £19,200 for 0.6 FTE).

Duration: Initially a 12-month contract, with potential to convert to a permanent position at Flex Assure’s discretion.

Established by ADE with support from industry and government, it provides a clear framework to promote good practice and protect consumers. Flex Assure covers both domestic and business markets, helping to ensure services are delivered in a consistent, transparent, and reliable way.

About the role:

Flex Assure is seeking a motivated and highly organised Business Development Assistant to support the growth of its compliance scheme membership and the wider day‑to‑day running of the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build experience in the energy flexibility sector, with exposure to industry stakeholders, Government, Ofgem, and leading providers of flexibility services. You will develop a strong understanding of the codes of conduct and policy landscape that underpin the scheme, while building valuable relationships across the sector.

Working with the Scheme Manager you will:

  • Support in delivering membership growth for the compliance scheme.
  • Network with leading industry stakeholders, civil servants and Flex Assure members in events, workshops and conferences across the UK.
  • Develop and maintain a recruitment pipeline of prospective scheme members.
  • Engage with potential members and external stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Help plan, coordinate, and deliver events with National Grid NESO and the regional DSOs.
  • Provide administrative support for the day‑to‑day running of Flex Assure.
  • Maintain accurate records, trackers, and correspondence.
  • Become familiar with the existing Codes of Conduct and related scheme requirements.
  • Support engagement with Government, Ofgem, and other relevant industry bodies.

Candidate profile:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • An enthusiastic and confident personality, who is comfortable engaging with a large number of people in a highly professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – you must be confident in face‑to‑face (or screen‑to‑screen) meetings and over the telephone.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Confidence in engaging with external partners and prospective members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • An interest in energy flexibility, market development, and regulatory policy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and Teams.
  • Excellent database management and good writing skills, with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
  • Existing right to work in the UK.

Desirable experience:

The following would be advantageous:

  • Familiarity or experience with energy policy or energy markets (particularly energy flexibility / demand side response).
  • Understanding of, or an interest in, customer assurance and protection.
  • Some experience of administering events, conferences or forums would be an advantage, though an enthusiasm to do so would be equally as beneficial.
  • Experience of industry standards/certification schemes.
  • Presentation skills and experience of presenting at conferences.
  • Experience with digital marketing & promotion.
  • Business development, sales or marketing skills.
