English Language Experience and Action (ELEA) is a residential EFL summer school experience for students aged 12 - 17, taking place between July 16th and August 1st 2026, at the prestigious Atlantic College campus, Saint Donats. We are excited to recruit additional English language teachers to work alongside experienced team members for this innovative programme organised jointly by UWC Atlantic Experience and Peartree Languages.
Our vision remains the same: to improve students' English-language level, develop important life skills, and equip students with the soft skills needed to navigate the 21st century world. Through a wide range of adventures, students will develop team-building, leadership, communication, and listening competencies, along with resilience and confidence.
This residential role includes mainly classroom teaching but also supervision of the cultural activity programme and excursion programme (not sports or action-related activities). Teachers are expected to play an active role in the assessment of students, evaluation of course materials, and arrival/leave day activities and duties.
The ELEA programme emphasises developing productive English language skills and activating spoken language in a collaborative, fun, and inclusive classroom environment. A key aim is to increase students' confidence and fluency when communicating in English. A scheme of work with detailed course and lesson outcomes will be provided to help teachers plan lessons effectively, although teachers can adapt content as applicable for their individual class.
Lessons are topic-based, centred on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and will develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, initiative, and critical thinking. All teachers must be qualified to the standards of the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK and will be expected to use a range of classroom methodologies that place the student at the centre of the learning experience.
The ELEA EFL tutors will work alongside the pastoral and activity team at UWC Atlantic Experience to deliver an excellent, safe, and enjoyable educational experience for all course participants. Safeguarding, student well-being, student satisfaction, and the overall smooth running of the programme must be a priority at all times. Enthusiasm, creativity, a strong sense of responsibility, maturity, positive energy, and the ability to work as a member of a wider team are essential.
Key Details:
- A maximum of three pre-course training hours - mainly online or face to face if already in the south Wales area.
- Arrival evening 15/07/26 or the morning (before 9:00am) of 16/07/26.
- 2 full days of induction, training, and professional development sessions (all paid) 16/07/26 + 17/07/26.
- Course dates: 18/07 - 01/08/26 (inclusive).
- 30 teaching hours over a 14-day period, normally between 9am and 5pm.
- 12 hours over a 14-day period for lesson preparation/administration/meetings/training.
- 14 off-site cultural excursion leading hours over a 14-day period, normally between 9am and 7pm.
- 6 - 10 on-site cultural social programme hours over a 14-day period, normally between 6pm and 10pm.
- Hours are approximate but should not exceed 44 hours per week.
Please note that you may be required to perform other supervision duties from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the course. Additional duties will NOT include overnight supervision of students or the overnight camp. There is no obligation to live on campus for the duration of the course provided you can fulfil all duties required as per the timetable.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be a minimum of TEFLI qualified according to the requirements set by the British Council for the Teaching and Learning of English in the UK (CELTA, Cert. TESOL, Recognised TEFL qualification) and ideally hold a minimum of two years demonstrable experience working with young adults or young learners (under 18), although other experience may be considered.
Salary and Benefits:
EFL Tutor: Starting at Β£1,147 with alternative remuneration packages available depending on experience per 14-day course, plus holiday pay. Staff accommodation is a private room in a shared staff house on site, with access to own cooking facilities. All meals are included while the course is running along with snacks and drinks provided in the staff house.
