In this role, you will deliver Maths and English Functional Skills qualifications at Levels 1 and 2 to apprentices within Pearson TQ's Army Apprenticeship programmes. Based primarily at Worthy Down Barracks, Winchester, with delivery at other Pearson TQ or employer sites and through online learning, this role aligns with market titles such as Functional Skills Tutor, English and Maths Tutor, Adult Skills Tutor, or Employability Skills Trainer. You'll play a key role in helping learners build essential skills that support apprenticeship success and long-term progression.

This role exists to support learners in developing the English and Maths skills they need to succeed in their apprenticeship and beyond. You'll wake up motivated by helping learners grow in confidence, overcome learning barriers, and achieve nationally recognised qualifications. In your first six months, your biggest impact will be establishing strong learner engagement, delivering high-quality teaching across face-to-face and online settings, and ensuring learners remain on track to complete their Functional Skills successfully.

What You'll Own

Success in this role means learners are engaged, progressing as planned, and achieving their Functional Skills qualifications. Your key priorities will include:

  • Delivering engaging Maths and English Functional Skills teaching at Levels 1 and 2, both onsite and online
  • Motivating and supporting a caseload of learners to achieve on time
  • Conducting Speaking and Listening assessments and completing Awarding Body requirements

You’ll also lead and contribute to:

  • Creating and maintaining high-quality lesson plans, schemes of work, and differentiated learning materials
  • Maintaining accurate learner records, including Tutor Rationales, Programme Plans, Learning Session Records, and e-portfolios
  • Providing Functional Skills performance data to support reporting and quality assurance
  • Supporting course development, tutorial activity, and associated administrative tasks
  • Participating in staff development, training, and standardisation activities

About You

You’re a learner-focused tutor who brings energy, adaptability, and a commitment to high-quality delivery. You bring:

  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLS)
  • A minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English up to Level 2
  • Experience delivering both face-to-face and remote learning

You’re someone who:

  • Uses contextualised and innovative delivery approaches to engage learners
  • Communicates clearly and builds strong learner relationships
  • Is flexible, organised, and enthusiastic
  • Holds a full driving licence and access to a car (mileage allowance payable)
