Support Royal Armoured Corps soldiers through the Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship, combining coaching, assessment and accurate programme management in a predominantly MOD site-based role. Also known in the market as: Engineering Apprenticeship Coach; Engineering Assessor; Work-Based Learning Assessor; Automotive Assessor; Military Skills Coach.
About the Role
Pearson TQ is looking for a Skills Coach to manage and support a caseload of Royal Armoured Corps soldiers completing the Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Standard. You will coach learners, assess occupational competence, conduct progress reviews and maintain the evidence needed for successful progression.
This is a hybrid role that is predominantly based at the Tidworth Ministry of Defence site, with homeworking available for administration and travel to nearby customer sites when required. You will work closely with learners, Army stakeholders and internal quality and delivery teams.
The role suits someone who combines engineering credibility with fair, evidence-led assessment and strong caseload organisation.
What You’ll Do
- Manage an allocated learner caseload across RAC units.
- Deliver regular coaching, assessment and progress reviews.
- Assess knowledge, skills and behaviours using observations, professional discussions, witness testimony and digital evidence.
- Monitor progress, off-the-job training, Functional Skills and planned end dates.
- Maintain accurate, timely records in OneFile and other required systems.
- Identify learners at risk and agree clear recovery actions.
- Prepare learners for Gateway and End-Point Assessment.
- Build effective relationships across Army units and Pearson teams.
What We’re Looking For
- Relevant occupational experience in engineering operations, vehicle maintenance or military engineering.
- A recognised assessor qualification such as TAQA, CAVA, A1/D32/D33 or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Experience assessing vocational qualifications or apprenticeship standards.
- Sound understanding of assessment practice, evidence requirements and learner progression.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft 365 and electronic portfolio systems.
- Excellent organisation, caseload management and written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining compliant, audit-ready records.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between customer sites.
- Military, RAC or Royal Engineers experience is helpful but not essential.
Location & Working Pattern
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hybrid, with the role predominantly based at the Tidworth MOD site. Homeworking is available for administration days. Travel to nearby customer sites may be required.
