In this role, you will deliver high-quality Functional Skills teaching in Maths and English to Pearson TQ apprentices across multiple locations, including Army Apprenticeship contracts. The position aligns with market titles such as Functional Skills Tutor, English & Maths Instructor, Adult Learning Tutor, Skills Coach, or Apprenticeship Tutor, with a focus on engaging learners, supporting achievement, and ensuring compliance with awarding body and organisational standards.
This role exists to inspire learners to achieve Functional Skills qualifications while building their confidence and employability skills. You will wake up motivated by helping learners succeed, seeing them progress, and knowing your teaching directly impacts their outcomes.
In your first six months, your biggest impact will come from establishing strong learner engagement, delivering high-quality instruction across multiple sites, and ensuring learners' portfolios and records are up-to-date and compliant.

What You’ll Own
- The delivery of Maths and English Functional Skills qualifications at Levels 1 and 2 across multiple sites
- Planning and preparation of differentiated learning materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans aligned to individual learner needs
- Assessment, feedback, and recording for all learners, including speaking and listening assessments, e-portfolio updates, and Awarding Body paperwork
You’ll also influence:
- Innovative and contextualised delivery approaches to engage learners in practical, meaningful ways
- Accurate and timely Functional Skills reporting and data submission to support quality assurance and management decision-making
- Collaboration with colleagues to improve learning resources, delivery practices, and learner outcomes
About You
You bring experience delivering Functional Skills in Maths and English and a passion for helping learners achieve their potential.
- Relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, CTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS)
- Experience delivering Functional Skills English and Maths up to Level 2, including face-to-face and remote learning
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Ability to adopt contextualised and practical delivery techniques to motivate and engage learners
You’re someone who:
- Thrives in a flexible, multi-site teaching environment
- Embraces innovation in learning delivery
- Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and a learner-first mindset
- Has a full, current driving licence and is willing to travel to different sites
Desirable:
