Responsible for market-leading courses such as Dynamo, Studio, Viva, Stimmt, Expo, Metro and Mira, this is an opportunity to join the industry's most successful languages team.
We are committed to equity of opportunity, and we welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented in the educational publishing industry. We are keen to help people develop their strengths and provide plenty of opportunities for learning within the role and company.
About the role
Senior Content and Learning Specialist is a mid-level editorial role within a friendly and high-performing team. The successful candidate will work closely with MFL Product Managers and fellow Content and Learning Specialists as well as colleagues from design, media, technology, R&P and production. You will develop a strong understanding of customer and learner needs and use this expertise to create high-quality resources for our Modern Languages portfolio. Typically, a Senior Content and Learning Specialist will carry out tasks and activities such as:
Working autonomously and as part of a wider team to manage print and digital educational content through the entire publishing process, ensuring that it really works in and out of the classroom.
Developing your knowledge of customer and learner needs and the Secondary school landscape and applying this knowledge as you develop our products and services.
Building an in-depth knowledge of our content creation tools and using that knowledge to think creatively about how to best develop our content.
Briefing, training and overseeing freelancers, authors and suppliers to ensure they create, manage, edit and proofread materials to meet the needs of learners and teachers.
Working with cross-functional teams including Rights and Permissions, Design, Media, Technology and Production.
Attending / assisting at author workshops and managing author relationships to ensure timely delivery of quality manuscript.
Working with colleagues and suppliers to create, challenge and improve team workflows and author writing processes.
Creating and maintaining relationships with schools and students to facilitate the testing and development of our products and services.
Assisting the MFL Product Managers to carry out market research and contributing to the development of new business cases.
Thinking laterally and providing solutions to everyday problems.
Attending audio and video recordings to direct actors (often in their native language) and ensure we capture the content we need.
This is a hybrid role (mixture of home and office-based working), which can be based in our Oxford or London offices. Occasional travel to Oxford and London for in-person team events will be expected.
We are looking for people who display a range of these strengths and behaviours:
It is essential that you:
Are fluent in at least one language out of French, German and Spanish (e.g. degree level, native speaker level or equivalent);
Have strong editorial skills and hands-on experience of working with educational content for young learners in a publishing environment;
Have experience of briefing, overseeing and working collaboratively with authors, freelancers and/or suppliers;
Have a passion for languages and an understanding of or desire to learn about language teaching in secondary schools;
Are passionate about education and supporting students in making progress in their lives through learning;
Have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working collaboratively with a close team to develop exciting new digital and print resources;
Are proactive, able to take responsibility and to work autonomously on your given area, whilst also being willing to help out wherever you're most needed;
Have proven organisational, problem-solving and project management skills;
