Purpose An external proofreader is expected to conduct a written review of the accuracy of qualification(s) or unit(s) assigned to them, with regards to spelling, grammar, formatting, punctuation, and content.

Experience

  • An excellent command of Welsh
  • Extensive editorial experience. Used to working with a variety of publications.
  • Used to working to tight deadlines.
  • Familiar with working to house style.
  • Able to use standard marks for proofreading copy-editing.
  • Knowledge of Word and able to edit onscreen, carrying out straightforward corrections and layout tasks as necessary.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the English language (elements such as sentence structure, plain English, grammar, spelling, punctuation).
  • Able to improve readability and to tailor copy to meet the desired audience.
  • Able to use the BSI marks for copy preparation and proof correction.

  • Wide general knowledge.
  • Confidence in asking questions and raising queries and issues.
  • Able to find solutions to editorial issues and problems.
  • Able to work to tight and movable deadlines.

This is not a salaried position, this is a freelanced based role. We are committed to producing high‐quality, customer‐friendly materials. The editorial AA role plays a key part in helping us to meet this commitment. The overall objective of the role is to ensure that materials produced by Product Development, in particular qualification specifications and support materials, are copy‐edited and proofread to meet editorial quality standards and house style. We need to ensure that these materials are clear and easy to read, and that they are free of grammatical and other language‐related errors.
