About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate Functional Skills Tutor to support learners within a unique military training environment. You’ll help apprentices build essential Maths and English skills that directly support their success—both in their programmes and beyond. This is a zero-hours role, offering flexibility based on learner demand varied delivery across different sites and programmes, with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on learner confidence, progression, and achievement.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll deliver high-quality Functional Skills teaching and provide tailored support to ensure learners stay engaged and successfully complete their qualifications.
- Deliver engaging Maths and English Functional Skills sessions (Levels 1–2), both onsite and remotely
- Support and motivate learners to achieve their qualifications on time
- Conduct Speaking and Listening assessments in line with awarding body requirements
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learner needs
You’ll also:
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and differentiated learning resources
- Maintain accurate learner records, including e-portfolios and progress tracking
- Provide data and updates to support quality assurance and reporting
- Participate in team meetings, standardisation, and CPD activities
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS)
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
- Experience delivering Functional Skills English up to Level 2
- Experience delivering both face-to-face and remote learning
You’ll be successful if you:
- Are learner-focused and passionate about supporting adult learners
- Build strong rapport and communicate effectively
- Are adaptable, organised, and comfortable working across multiple locations
- Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle (mileage provided)
