A GCE Religious Studies (2016 Specification) Examiner will mark candidates' responses in accordance with the pre-defined mark scheme, whilst adhering to conditions of recognition and examination procedures. Most subjects will be marked onscreen using ePEN, which can be done from home. A few subjects are still marked in the traditional method, using paper scripts sent through the post. A high level of subject knowledge is necessary in order to apply the mark scheme. Each examiner will receive an agreed allocation of scripts.

- To mark accurately and consistently to ensure overall standards are maintained
- To submit samples to your Team Leader at designated times
- To ensure milestones for marking are adhered to
- To ensure all administration is completed as specified
Qualifications needed
- You will have a degree or equivalent
- You will be a qualified teacher
Experience needed
If you are applying for the following:
- 8RS0/01 (Philosophy of Religion)
- 8RS0/02 (Religion and Ethics)
- 8RS0/03 (New Testament Studies)
You will need to have some teaching experience in the specific unit you are applying for. E.g. Applicants must have taught Paper 01 Philosophy of Religion in order to mark this paper. We are aware that since this is a new specification, that applicants will not have a full year's teaching experience of these units.
If you are applying for the following:
- 8RS0/4A (Buddhism)
- 8RS0/4B (Christianity)
- 8RS0/4C (Hinduism)
- 8RS0/4D (Islam)
- 8RS0/4E (Judaism)
- 8RS0/4F (Sikhism)
You will need to have at least one year's full time teaching experience in the relevant subject, in the last 8 years. E.g. Applicants must have taught Buddhism for at least one year, in the last 8 years, in order to mark this paper.
Please ensure that you clearly evident the subject areas that you have experience with in the Work Experience section of the application form. We will not accept applications from those who only highlight general GCE Religious Studies teaching experience.
