Overview of the independent end-point assessor role:

The Government requires all apprenticeships to include an end-point assessment (EPA), which is a holistic evaluation of the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) learned throughout the apprenticeship. This ensures apprentices meet employer standards and are fully competent. Pearson provides employers with confidence that completing an apprenticeship signifies being job-ready and that assessments are consistent across all apprenticeships.

An independent EPA means that assessors have no conflict of interest and are impartial in their judgment. They must be independent of the training provider and not involved in the apprentice's on-programme training or assessment. EPAs are conducted onsite on dates agreed with employers or providers. Assessors record and submit outcomes with clear justifications, and Pearson quality assures these assessments. Assessors are qualified, trained, and approved to operate as IEAs, undertaking assessments in line with the apprenticeship assessment plan and Pearson materials.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in regular training and standardisation activities.
  • Maintain evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Assess candidate performance according to published criteria, maintaining standards.
  • Follow Pearson's specifications, assessment materials, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Respond to EPA planning, operational activities, reports, and submissions.
  • Report risks and issues, including suspected malpractice.
  • Ensure high-quality EPA reports and evidence are recorded accurately.
  • Support Pearson with appeals regarding assessment decisions, if necessary.
  • Raise conflicts of interest, ensuring assessor independence.
  • Complete personal actions as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of EPA activities and external quality assurance.

This role is within the sport and physical activity sector, including high-performance, community, and school environments.

  • High Performance Sport Coaches: Develop athletes in high-performance settings, including talent pathways, national/international programs, and professional environments.
  • Community Sport Coaches: Motivate and engage people of all ages and abilities in community sports, including local authority, charity, and governing body initiatives.
  • School Sport Coaches: Collaborate with teachers to develop pupils' psychomotor skills using a whole-child approach across various school settings.

The broad purpose is to use technical and tactical sports knowledge to design and deliver coaching programs that engage and improve participants' skills and performance.

Essential Background and Experience:

  • Relevant occupational competence for at least 2 years.
  • Knowledge of coaching areas mentioned above.
  • Qualified with a relevant qualification at or above Level 4.
  • Assessor qualification.
  • Experience leading meetings, interviews, or discussions.
  • Experience with quality assurance/regulatory requirements.
  • Commitment to maintaining CPD aligned with apprenticeship and EPA standards.

Additional Requirements:

  • UK-based candidates only.
  • Availability for at least two days during the week for EPA activities.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in marking or grading judgments.
