As we continue to transition to a digital environment, we aim to update our approaches to assessment delivery with a modern system that supports Senior Associates, builds associate capacity across the system, and delivers the best outcomes for learners. We are updating senior associate roles and responsibilities across our qualifications and would like to offer you the opportunity to apply for one of these roles.

Purpose

As a Chair of Examiners with Pearson, your role is to maintain standards across different specifications and methods of assessment from year to year, and report back to the Assessment team. In this role you will be a direct point of contact for the Principal Examiner. You should always represent Pearson with professional integrity.

Core Services and Expectations

Core expectations include:

  • Act at all times in a manner that will not bring Pearson, its employees, or its representatives into disrepute.
  • Read all Pearson policies and guidance prior to undertaking contracted activities.
  • Respect the confidentiality of centres and learners.
  • Attend meetings or training sessions relevant to your role when requested by Pearson.
  • Adhere to deadlines and ensure that all work is carried out to the best of your ability.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a professional manner when carrying out services on behalf of Pearson.
  • Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson software, with malware/virus protection, a suitable internet connection, and a personal secure email account.
  • Communicate with Pearson and its centres in a timely manner regarding designated responsibilities.
  • Raise any concerns if you suspect or are made aware of malpractice, maladministration, or safeguarding issues.

Role Specific Services and Expectations

In addition to Pearson\\\’s core services expectations, the following apply:

  • Be available to support queries and feedback on examination days when required.
  • Provide support and feedback for new and existing Principal Examiners/Moderators when requested.
  • Reviewing and approving the team of supervisors in conjunction with the Assessment team.
  • Attend and contribute to pre-standardisation, standardisation, and pre-award meetings with the assessment team; attend other meetings as required (e.g., overall grade awards, appeals against results, post-series reviews). Represent Pearson at board hearings for examination appeals as needed.
  • Sample marking/moderation from the Principal Examiners/Moderators using the appropriate Pearson systems.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation across the quality assurance process.
  • Undertake accompanied ad hoc moderation/examination visits where necessary.
  • Carry out sense checks and comparative judgement activities after pre-award meetings when required.
  • Chair awarding meetings to ensure national standards are met; be available post-meeting for any award changes and to provide evidence supporting any boundary recommendation that exceeds Pearson tolerances.
  • Complete a Chair of Examiners report following the awarding discussion, where required.
  • Complete the Senior Assessment Associate review process reflecting on challenges and successes and attend a follow-up meeting with the assessment team if required.
  • Submit reports on candidate/series performance and mark/moderate candidates\\\’ responses.
  • Support when complaints are made by providing further evidence or information that informs decision making.
  • Attend and support meetings with customers where required.

Experience and Qualifications Required

Experience:

As a representative of the company, you will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience and knowledge of quality assurance and assessment practice.
  • History of moderation and/or marking a regulated qualification.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to provide and coordinate training such as standardisation and other standards-related activities.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the specification for your specialist sector, including internal and external requirements.
  • Provide examples of when you were asked to lead or support essential quality assurance activities.
