Overview of the Principal Moderator role:

The Principal Moderator is responsible for ensuring that the standards of the internally assessed – externally moderated component are maintained and are consistent with the unit specification and assessment criteria. The Principal Moderator is responsible for the setting of coursework tasks/set assignments and the standardising of moderators.

*Main responsibilities: *

  • Writing the Pearson Set Assignment, attend the Question Paper Evaluation Committee meeting (QPEC) and produce a final draft.

  • Compile exemplar work, annotated to show how the assessment criteria are to be applied both for standardisation tasks, and published documents

  • To ensure, through standardisation and monitoring, that all moderators (including Assistant Principal Moderators and Team Leaders) meet the standardisation requirements and apply the assessment criteria ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout.

  • Be involved in the awarding process and advise members on how the Pearson Set Assignment functioned and recommend preliminary mark ranges for the judgemental grade boundaries.

  • This Construction and practice component covers:

  • o Carpentry & Joinery

    o Brickwork

    o The successful candidate should have some experience in both fields, though emphasis will be placed on Carpentry & Joinery, as this represents the bulk of registrations.

    o The successful candidate should be able to present construction related drawings using a CAD or equivalent drafting package.

    Requirement:

  • Available to attend a variety of digital meetings, for a minimum of 10-13 non-consecutive day long events
  • o Some weekends

    o Some meetings are fixed/do not have flexibility to be reorganised.

    Restrictions

  • You are ineligible for this role if you are currently teaching this component.
  • Applicants must have a teaching qualification and a minimum of one full academic year of teaching experience in the relevant subject area/sector within the last 8 years.

    We require two references in support of any application.
