Apprenticeship Coach β Engineering Operative (Maintainer)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional to join Pearson TQ as an Apprenticeship Coach β Engineering Operative (Maintainer).
In this role, youβll support and develop apprentices throughout their learning journey, helping them build the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to achieve their Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Standard. You'll provide coaching, mentoring, workplace observations, progress reviews, and assessment support to ensure apprentices remain engaged, make strong progress, and successfully complete their programme.

Location & Work Setup
This role supports apprentices across:
- Tidworth
- Warminster
- Bulford
- Bovington
Regular travel to learner workplaces is required, with a combination of face-to-face and virtual delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
Apprentice Coaching & Development
- Deliver high-quality coaching and mentoring to apprentices throughout their programme.
- Conduct initial assessments to identify individual starting points and development needs.
- Support the development of apprentices' knowledge, skills, and behaviours in line with the Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Standard.
- Provide constructive and motivational feedback that helps learners achieve their goals.
Assessment & Progress Reviews
- Conduct workplace observations and assessments against apprenticeship standard requirements.
- Complete regular progress reviews and maintain accurate learner records.
- Ensure learner evidence is valid, authentic, current, relevant, and sufficient.
- Support apprentices through all stages of the programme, including Gateway preparation where applicable.
Learner Engagement & Support
- Build strong relationships with apprentices, line managers, and stakeholders.
- Encourage positive attitudes to learning and achievement.
- Identify risks to learner progress and take proactive action to provide support.
- Maintain regular contact with learners through workplace visits and virtual coaching sessions.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain accurate learner records across MIS, e-portfolio, and learning systems.
- Ensure all programme activity meets internal quality standards and customer requirements.
- Participate in standardisation activities, team meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Complete ongoing CPD to maintain occupational and professional competence.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience as a mechanical maintainer with broad engineering maintenance knowledge.
- Experience delivering or supporting apprenticeship training programmes.
- Ability to effectively manage and support a learner caseload.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Experience using technology and digital tools to support learning delivery.
- Good written communication skills, including providing detailed learner feedback and action planning.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Engineering Maintenance qualification at Level 2 or above.
- Relevant teaching, training, assessor, or mentoring qualification.
- Experience working in target-driven environments and achieving performance objectives.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Proven coaching and mentoring experience.
- Knowledge of ESFA funding requirements.
- Experience supporting apprenticeship provision during Ofsted inspections.
- Experience working with military or defence-sector learners
Additional Information
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Travel to learner and customer sites is an essential part of the role.
- The successful candidate will be expected to maintain occupational competency through ongoing professional development.
