If you’re the type of person who notices the millimetre before the machine does, thrives on precision, and takes pride in getting complex measurements absolutely spot on… you’ll want to read this.
We’re working with a long-established aerospace manufacturer who produce highly technical, high-integrity components. Their Quality team is growing, and they’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Inspector who loves real engineering—proper measurement, proper problem-solving, and proper craftsmanship. This is not a paperwork-only quality role. It’s about being right there with the parts, jigs, fixtures, drawings, and measurement tools—making sure every component is exactly as it needs to be.
Your Role – Mechanical Inspector
You’ll join a knowledgeable, supportive Quality Assurance department, carrying out detailed dimensional and visual inspections on complex aerospace castings. This requires a strong grasp of engineering drawings, GD&T and the ability to measure mechanically—not just relying on machines, but understanding the maths, angles, and setups behind them.
You’ll be working with CMMs, height gauges, micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, sine bars, rotary tables, v-blocks and more. If you enjoy the challenge of setting up compound angles correctly and solving “how do we measure this?” puzzles—this is exactly the environment for you.
As discussed with the team today, success in this role comes from three things: quality mindset, curiosity, and real attention to detail.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Carrying out full dimensional and visual inspection to detailed aerospace engineering drawings
- Using precision instruments including micrometers, vernier callipers, height gauges, DTIs and CMMs
- Setting datums and checking complex features such as arcs, radii, angles and compound angles
- Marking out, setting up jigs, and performing iterative measurement checks
- Completing Dimensional FAIRs and AS9102 Form 3s
- Maintaining and calibrating inspection equipment
- Working closely with production teams to resolve quality issues
- Playing a key role in driving accuracy, consistency and continuous improvement
What We’re Looking For:
- Solid experience as a Mechanical Inspector within aerospace or precision engineering
- Strong, confident use of mechanical measurement tools (not just CMM reliance)
- Excellent understanding of engineering drawings & GD&T
- A methodical, precise approach and an exceptional eye for detail
- The ability to problem-solve, question, challenge and improve processes
- A positive, proactive attitude – technical ability is key, but your approach matters just as much
- Willingness to learn additional inspection techniques specific to complex castings
The team have specifically highlighted that character and work ethic matter hugely—they value people who take pride in their work, communicate well, and fit into a supportive, no-ego environment.
What’s in It for You:
- Competitive ÂŁ32,000 salary
- Early finish every Friday
- Secure, long-term role within an established, profitable aerospace business
- A friendly, enthusiastic team where face-to-face communication and shared standards really matter
- Ongoing development – this company invests in their people
- Real engineering, proper inspection, and a product you can genuinely be proud of
If you’re serious about engineering quality and want a role where your skill and craft really make a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Please send your CV (including full month/year employment dates) for immediate consideration.
