Senior Climate Law Strategist
6 month fixed-term contract
Fully remote with flexibility to travel (national and international)
£70,000 - £80,000 dependent on experience
Are you an environmental or climate lawyer who’s moved beyond casework and wants to influence where legal action makes the biggest difference? We’re supporting an international not-for-profit organisation working at the intersection of climate, law and philanthropy, and they’re looking for a senior legal strategist to step in on a fixed-term basis during a maternity cover period. This is not a litigation role. Instead, you’ll sit at the centre of a global ecosystem of NGOs, lawyers, researchers and funders – shaping strategy, strengthening collaboration and helping direct resources towards the most impactful legal interventions.
The role
Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll take ownership of an established global legal strategy focused on reducing emissions across high-impact sectors such as energy, agriculture and waste. Your focus will be on maintaining momentum, refining priorities and ensuring collaboration continues during a critical period.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Developing and evolving legal strategies designed to drive systemic climate impact
- Coordinating networks and communities of practice across jurisdictions
- Supporting funding decisions by identifying emerging legal opportunities and gaps
- Producing insight and briefing material to inform partners and funders
- Representing the organisation at key sector events and convenings
About you
This role will suit someone who has built their career within environmental or climate law, often in not-for-profit, NGO or foundation settings, and is comfortable operating at a strategic level.
You’re likely to have:
- Strong experience working with legal frameworks to accelerate climate or environmental action
- A background in environmental or climate law, policy or legal strategy
- Confidence working across multiple stakeholders, including funders and civil society
- A collaborative, values-driven approach with a clear understanding of equity and inclusion
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
You don’t need to be a practising lawyer, and you don’t need niche methane expertise – strategic thinking and sector credibility matter more.
What’s on offer
- Fixed-term maternity cover (approx. March–October 2026)
- Salary in the region of £70,000–£80,000, pro rata if part-time
- Full-time or four days per week considered
- Remote working with occasional travel
- Opportunity to work on globally significant climate issues in a senior, trusted role
