Are you a hands-on IT professional with strong hardware expertise and experience supporting HP equipment? We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused Field Service IT Technician to cover Reading, Basingstoke and surrounding locations down to Bristol. This is a varied, hands-on role providing both on-site and remote technical support within a managed service environment.
We need candidates with strong experience working with HP laptops, desktops and associated hardware, and ideally someone who has completed HP technical training or holds relevant HP certifications/accreditations.
The Role
As a Field Service IT Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining a range of IT equipment, including HP laptops, desktops, RPOS systems and associated hardware and peripherals. You will troubleshoot hardware and software issues, replace and upgrade components, install and configure operating systems, and ensure devices are operating reliably and at peak performance. Working directly with users, you will provide professional technical support while offering practical guidance on device care, maintenance and IT best practices.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience supporting and repairing HP laptops and desktop PCs
- Excellent knowledge of PC hardware architecture and fault diagnosis
- Experience replacing laptop and desktop components at board and module level
- Strong understanding of BIOS/UEFI, firmware, device drivers and hardware configuration
- Experience diagnosing issues involving system boards, memory, SSDs/HDDs, displays, batteries, keyboards, power supplies and peripherals
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows installation, configuration and troubleshooting
- Experience using hardware diagnostic utilities and following structured fault-finding procedures
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, Wi-Fi and basic connectivity troubleshooting
- Experience supporting printers, peripherals and associated end-user equipment
- Familiarity with IT service management, ticketing systems and working within defined SLAs
- Ability to accurately record diagnostic findings, repairs, replacement parts and technical resolutions
