Pearson Whiffin Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Underwriter to join an established underwriting team based in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong knowledge of residential and commercial property law who is confident making underwriting decisions, managing client relationships and identifying opportunities to drive profitable growth.
The role will focus on underwriting residential and commercial assumptive-based risks within agreed authority levels, while developing existing and prospective client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the business. First Title - Underwriter
The Role
Working within the underwriting team, you'll be responsible for assessing risk, supporting product development, maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring underwriting activity remains commercially effective and compliant.
Responsibilities will include:
- Underwriting residential and commercial risks within agreed authority levels
- Making effective underwriting decisions to maximise profitability
- Negotiating terms and identifying commercially viable opportunities
- Developing relationships with prospective clients
- Maintaining long-term, profitable relationships with existing clients and markets
- Maximising opportunities with high-value and high-revenue client accounts
- Providing confident advice around policy coverage to internal and external stakeholders
- Reviewing product lines, schemes and client arrangements to identify opportunities for improved revenue and efficiency
- Supporting the ongoing review of residential product offerings
- Ensuring documentation, pricing and processing standards remain commercially effective and compliant
- Providing technical input into the drafting of new policies
- Supporting underwriting activity across lender programmes
- Identifying opportunities for new products and bespoke client schemes
- Supporting drafting and contract negotiations for new propositions
- Reviewing customer feedback and competitor activity to support product and market development
- Contributing technical input to marketing materials
- Supporting client presentations, meetings and promotional events
- Working closely with Sales teams to support existing and prospective clients
- Keeping up to date with relevant legal and regulatory developments
- Coaching and supporting colleagues on more complex underwriting matters
- Supporting commercial underwriting activity when required
- Travelling to client premises and other offices where necessary First Title - Underwriter
What We're Looking For
- Detailed knowledge of residential and commercial property law
- Strong knowledge of residential property products and the wider market
- Previous underwriting experience within a property, legal, insurance or related environment
- Strong commercial awareness
- Confident making commercially focused underwriting decisions
- Ability to work towards clear targets and demonstrate strong performance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Ability to understand client businesses and take a partnership-led approach
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
