Volunteer with Pearls Project to offer support to women impacted by trauma, substance use, and involvement in the sex industry. Through support and wellbeing activities, help women access health, promote safety, harm reduction, and connection in a compassionate environment.

Pearls Project supports women affected by sex work, substance use, and trauma through outreach, one-to-one support, and group activities. We create spaces of safety, belonging, and hope where women can rebuild trust and wellbeing. Volunteers are vital to this work. By supporting women individually and in groups, you’ll help us offer consistent, relational, trauma-informed support, promote safety and harm reduction, help women access essential health, recovery, and justice services, reduce isolation, and support emotional and physical wellbeing, helping women find their strengths to take positive, self-directed steps.

Your involvement helps ensure women feel valued, supported, and safer especially when navigating complex or intimidating systems. You’ll play a crucial role in sustaining a trauma-informed, harm reduction approach that builds stability, trust, and hope.

What we are looking for / Qualifications

We’re looking for women who bring warmth, compassion, and a grounded presence to be strengths-based in our approach. You don’t need to be a professional; what matters most is reliability, consistency, good boundaries, and a commitment to relational working and safety.

Experience And Knowledge

Experience in any of the following would be helpful (but not all essential):

  • Supporting people one-to-one in community settings
  • Facilitating or co-facilitating women’s or wellbeing groups
  • Providing practical or emotional support to women experiencing substance use/trauma/sex work/homelessness
  • Supporting access to health, recovery, housing, or justice services
  • Relational practice and nurturing safe, brave spaces of belonging
  • Applying harm reduction or safety-focused approaches
  • Working with women’s services, peer support, or trauma-informed environments

All volunteers receive induction, safeguarding and harm reduction guidance, and regular reflective support. We are developing a new training and support system for volunteers with first training starting on Nov 18th 2025 and continuing into 2026. We will have inductions every 3-4 months dependent on applicant levels.

What you will be doing

We’re looking for volunteers to support our wellbeing and community activities, offering one-to-one, group, and practical support to women in Liverpool affected by trauma, sex work, and substance use.

Current roles we’re recruiting for
  • Women’s Wellbeing Group Team. Weekday evenings. (Currently Thursday starting March 2026 and more evenings added in future)
  • Women’s Wellbeing/Support Team. Weekdays (Experience working in relevant area or with our women’s groups first is needed).

You’ll help create safe, welcoming spaces where women can connect, relax, and take part in positive, meaningful activities. Our approach is trauma-informed, relational, and person-led focused on safety, choice, and care at each woman’s own pace.

Depending on your interests and experience, you may:

  • Offer one-to-one practical, emotional, and holistic support in the community
  • Support women to access health care, substance use treatment, criminal justice, or housing services
  • Support women in crisis with foodbanks, practical needs, hospital visits, etc.
  • Help women navigate complex systems and overcome barriers to accessing support
  • Encourage harm reduction, wellbeing, and safety planning in day-to-day interactions
  • Assist in running women’s groups and drop-in sessions involving crafts, food, and creative activities
  • Provide calm, consistent encouragement and a listening ear
  • Support preparation, set-up, and reflection around sessions
  • Work alongside staff and volunteers to ensure safe, trauma-informed practice

All sessions are women-only and guided by respect, dignity, and inclusion. Volunteers receive induction, training, and reflective support to ensure they feel confident, safe, and equipped.

This role suits women who want to make a meaningful difference through consistent, compassionate, and practical support, helping women strengthen wellbeing, safety, and connection within their communities.
